It looks like a 4 track tape, except that it says 8 on the label.

or a quad... but there was no info on a BSS quad.

I have a copy of that album on a Stereo 8-track, and I don't seem to remember it having the Ampex style label.

It may be a bootleg.

I'll go check my copy of the Stereo tape just for kicks.

The fine print says it was a Record Club of America release. They were a legit outfit (or at least openly advertised in mainstream publications). I was a member in my high school days in the 1970s. They had an OK catalog and, I think, OK prices, but I remember getting some cassettes from them that just had photocopied typewritten labels on the cases! Their records were "normal", though. I think the gimmick with them was a lack of obligation to buy anything.

4 track no way, by 1973 it was dead and buried.

Labels style varied thru times, ELP Tarkus and PAAE all were done first in this ampex-style label, then with WB/Atlantic and pink or black carts (same is true for Led Zeppelin, Woodstock and other very big sellers of early seventies on various WEA labels). All Trilogy i've seen were on pink carts. So that combo seems *very* weird.
Probably a way to "create" a kind of custom label for the Record Club, freely "borrowing" the ampex style and remix it in a different way? It may be. But listing only two "programs" and saying "8" without "stereo" looks like a bad joke. :D

This is just a stereo tape. I have seen many of these titles with the "two-box" program listing, only to find that the tape is stereo and the label makes no attempt to accuratly list the song/program breakdown. (n)

Found a couple of tapes in my collection exactly like this.

They certainly aren't quad.

What a rip.
