Recorded and released in 1971, the album was the third by BJH and was recorded at Abbey Road studios and was co-produced by the band and ex-Pretty Things member Wally Allen. Widely regarded (along with “Once Again”) as one of the band’s early masterpieces, “…Other Short Stories” featured such classic tracks as ‘Medicine Man’, ‘Ursula (The Swansea Song)’, ‘The Poet’ and the epic ‘After the Day’. The album was critically acclaimed upon its release by Harvest Records and was also issued by Sire Records in the United States with some remixed versions of tracks. The album also featured the Barclay James Harvest symphony orchestra conducted by Martyn Ford and arrangements by Toni Cooke and Martyn Ford.

This expanded edition of “…Other Short Stories” comprises 40 tracks and features the original UK stereo mix re-mastered from the original master tapes and also includes a new stereo mix on a second CD and a high resolution 5.1 Surround Sound mix, new stereo mix and original stereo mix on an NTSTC / Region free DVD, all from the original Harvest masters. As far as US distributors, does anyone remember if the previous BJT deluxe reissues were offered? Or, is it mostly only getting from Cherry? I have purchased them all as pre-orders, but can't recall where I got them.

I think ImportCDs is a safe bet.

Also, this QQ poll excerpt might come handy for those late to the party. It's the seventh BJH surround title:

BJH continues Sweet! I got most of mine from Amazon if I remember correctly. Hopefully they will be able to do "Baby James Harvest" and "Time Honoured Ghosts" also, get those and I could close the book on BJH in surround(y)

Edit: Oh yeah, ordered.

I dig 'em all. Even the one with the super loud vocal (bumping the centre down a bit sorts it out). They're not super discreet all the time - they're subtle but I've found I can hear more surround action from multiple listens over the years. Great tunes and the fidelity's fine.

Once Again had a reasonable 5.1 mix. I haven't been very impressed with the other 5.1 mixes to be honest

Once Again actually uses the original quad mix rather than a new 5.1 - I like it, but some of the mixing decisions are really weird (lead vocals trapped in left rear on the first track, for instance).

FWIW, I gave songs from all of their 5.1 mixes a 2hr spin last night and there is a good deal of discreet elements in there. None of it is Idlewild South level of separation but I think it works well for the style of music. Massive drums and bass which many other bands' production is sorely lacking. Once Again probably has the most discreet surround mix. Even Polk Street Rag, possibly the worst "offender" for having a blisteringly loud vocal in the centre channel works well when you get the volume up a bit. The vocal sounds like it's right in your face and the reverb effect in the surrounds works well. You can hear what they were going for (even though I reckon that vocal's still too loud). Glad to hear there's more BJH on the way.

I'm guessing the "high resolution surround" will be DTS 96/24 on a DVD-V, in line with previous reissues in this series.
