Just brought home Dar Williams "Beauty of the Rain". Hadn't heard any new music on dvd-a for so long, thought I'd give it a try. Very nice. Sounds similar to Sarah MacLachlan, with the Hooters helping with production & back up. Allison Krauss, Bela Fleck & Chris Botti in the mix too. Surround sound is VERY dynamic - duets with Allison are almost call & response with Dar on the fronts, Allison on the rears. Often the bass & drum are on the rears, with guitars & keyboards on fronts. Dar's vocals are almost all firmly center. Not as dry as I'm making it sound - there's enough ambience to hold it all together. Very clean, open sound. Overall, I was very pleased with the disc. Give it a try!

I love this one and "The Green World" by her, both are Sliverline DVD-A's masterfully performed and recorded. I know folk music, even well crafted songs like hers don't sell much these days but she is a great songwriter/singer. All of her songs are worth listening to, mostly uplifting, with vocals soaring or laid back at times. Her record label is Razor & Tie, but I have never heard of it as far as I know. Oh ya, the surround mix is fine too, but the songwriting is the revelation here. The resulting sound from the mix is very spacious with no showy effects. Both albums are bullseyes.
