Yesterday was Eric's birthday....he is 76....since we are a little late for a birthday wish...maybe we could pick one of his songs that stands out...any song from his solo career or from his participation in many bands...cream...yardbirds...blind faith...derek and the dominos...anywhere he played will be fine...

I'm going to head back a little while and play the beano album.

I don't think his playing was ever as impassioned again and it has possibly the best guitar tone ever recorded

edit: I'll have to admit to not being a fan of most of his music but I've now moved on to sessions for robert j which also has the benefit of being a good surround recording too

Not to be all sappy...but oddly, Wonderful Tonight has always struck a chord (lmao) with me. I remember being a teen, hearing that song on the radio and it always made me all fuzzy inside. I had the cassette of Slowhand and it was one of the first cassettes I ever owned, so has a soft spot in my memories.

I have chosen Layla...a song that shows the dark side of Clapton....his obsession with George Harrison's wife...which fueled his alcoholism and drug addiction..and a downward spiral in his personal life...but I love the song

Nice, man they played that a bit faster. Hmmm, what made them do that? haha...ahem. Phil is saying, shit, slow down....

Just to pick something not usual, Hey Hey in the Unplugged CD, or better, DVD.

Also, the live version of Wonderful Tonight from Wonderful Tonight - On Stage 1978 - Civic Auditorium, Santa Monica 11 February 1978 (The Swingin' Pig Records TSP-CD-196- 1/2 - SB 6) preceded (or "intro'ed") by Peaches and Diesel.

Hard to pick just one, Clint!

I think my Clapton favorites are generally the songs where he played his guitar through a Leslie organ speaker - that sound just kills me every time. So I guess that's "Badge" at the top of the list, followed by a pretty good-sized chunk of the Blind Faith album...

Man, Night Music was such a great show. I think I still have that performance on VHS in the closet somewhere...
Yeah, me too, if they'd only put those shows out on DVD (Blu-ray probably overkill for the video quality!) 😞
I believe his singing is vastly underrated also.

Surprised nobody's mentioned his outfit on that gig - Purple suit, green shirt and Strat. 😜 🤣!!!

Found it, hee! There it is at 10:35, replete with embarrassing misinterpretation of the title (sheesh). Plus some good old-fashioned QQ thumb porn, wheee!

Thankfully a lot of this show is on YouTube these days, but hell yeah I'd still buy a DVD box of it.

Oh Lord...jpg

A very unlikely pairing: Eric and Luciano Pavarotti performing HOLY MOTHER LIVE together in 2003

Clapton wrote this song in the difficult times of rehabilitation due to drugs! He said that despite not being a devout Christian he felt he had to get forces into something he could not explain. This song is an example of spirituality and not religion. It's very sad but wonderful how this man can compose songs from the deepest pain he feels!
