I saw a press release from Acura that talks about the Foo Fighters listening to their new album "In Your Honor" in an Acura TL's DVD-A player.

Press Release Link

Then I saw on Barnes & Noble's site that there is a Dual Disc listed for this record.

BN Link

Can anyone confirm?

You got bad info friend. The rock disc is stereo only with a "making of..." on the DVD side.

The acoustic disc has a true DVD-A on the flip mixed by Elliot Scheiner. Amust have I think!

Is it a for sure that Scheiner mixed the acoustic album? I thought in the other thread that some were questioning whether or not the Acura folks got it right when they said it was Scheiner. Then again it would be kinda odd for Acura to be using this new Foo Fighters release if Elliot didn't do the mix since he's kinda Acura's big DVD-A pitchman.

I'm still worried that it might not actually be DVD-A despite what the Amazon description and Acura description say. Has anyone picked it up yet who can verify? If it truely is DVD-A and turns out to be a decent mix I'm gonna pick it up.

(Sorry for being so skeptical, today. It's just that aren't the Foo's on a BMG label? Then again Usher's DualDisc is on BMG and they kept it as a DVD-A after the merger with Sony. Perhaps the Foo's disc truely is DVD-A. Perhaps there was already an agreement in place with Acura that said the release was to be DVD-A? I hope so!!!!!)

I'm surprisd that some think that Silverline can't mix well. The Big Phat Band releases were phenominal in terms of surround encoding and presentation. There are a few others like Women of Rock that are quite good too.

I picked up the new special, DualDisc edition of the new Foo. I can confirm that the acoustic disc for "In Your Honor" is DVD-A. The rock disc is DVD-V on the flip side.

Is the first disc region coded ? my only experiance of a sony related Dual disc shows that they region code product another reason to avoid the Silverline of the majors.

The special edition has two separate Dual Discs in a card board sleeve design.

Disc 1, side 1 has the full throttle songs in standard stereo.
Disc 1, side 2 has the full throttle songs in enhanced stereo and NTSC video documentary.

Disc 2, side 1 has the acoustic songs in standard stereo.
Disc 2, side 2 has the acoustic songs in enhanced stereo & 5.1.

Our beloved Elliot is credited with mixing all the material on Disc 2.
He is not the mixer of record for Disc 1 material.

The details of the 5.1 are not presented anywhere on the packaging. It just says 5.1 surround. My player’s display showed it to be 96hrtz / 24bit . Usually my player will also indicate DVD-A, SACD, DTS or Dolby Digital in the display but it did not display anything but 3/2.1.

I did not get the opportunity to listen to the disc last night but the opening song starts off in the rears and then the fronts gradually come in before the vocals which seemed to be spread across the fronts. The 60 seconds I heard sounded good.

Disc 2 is 24/96 (stereo and surround) MLP DVD-A, my player verifies this. Hopefully this is a new trend for Sony.

If you boot in on a DVD-V player, you get 16/48 PCM Stereo and DD5.1 surround.

Are you sure this is a Sony release? It is not listed anywhere on their DualDisc site, but it has been recently updated with titles like the upcoming Offspring GH. I know that One by One was BMG, but is this one different?

This is on RCA which technically is BMG, however, BMG and Sony are now joined at the hip. We got really lucky on this one. Previous DualDisc RCA titles (5 Browns, Avril Lavigne) have been Dolby Digital or PCM 48/16 as the enhanced stereo. Hopefully DVD-A will be used with future releases as well.

I got this last Monday and have given it a couple of spins. I have the UK version which is 2CDs + DVD - you may think it nice that we don't have a DualDisc, but the downside is the dvd is wedged really tightly in to a foldout cardboard sleeve inside the package and was really difficult to get out. Anyway, for a Scheiner mix it's very subtle, but it's very effective because when the music builds up to a crescendo all the extras are really well placed and it really adds to the excitement. My favourite track, funnily enough is the one where their drummer sings and Dave Grohl plays drums, it features some great 12-string guitar. Anyway, here's hoping (yeah right) that the 'rock' disc comes out on DVD-A someday as 'One By One' is one of my favourite modern DVD-A's.

Well, bugger, I ordered the Dual Discs. Is it true MLP on the third disc Dave?

OK, so presumably the disc 2 stereo is on there as 24/96 too, as per the Dual Disc?

What about the Disc 1 material? The Dual Disc has 16/48 stereo I believe? Anything better on our DVD-A??!

I saw the CD version at my local CostCo for $12.50, doing a quick Froogle the best price was a little over $22. Anybody finding the dual disc at a better price? That seems like a pretty steep increase for the dual disc version, usually it's just a dollar or two more than the CD version. I've never really liked them, but if I could find it for a bit cheaper I'd take a chance on it.

Yes - 24/96 in both 5.1 and stereo. On the European three-disc version the DVD-A is "uncrippled" - in other words, if 24 bit 96KHz out of the digital outputs is what you've been hankering for, now you can have it with this disc :) The making-of doco from disc 1 of the Dualdisc pack is on the DVD-A in the Euro version, which probably explains its dual-layered format; pity they didn't make use of the extra space to stick the rock material on as well...

There is no Disc 1 material on the DVD-A in the European package, giving the Dualdisc a possible slight edge (but only slight, given that the enhanced version of disc 1 is, from reports above, only 16/48.

Oh, also note that the sticker on the Euro version is misleading - it uses the same text as found on the DualDisc release, claiming "the entire album in high resolution". Not true - disc 2 material only.
