Unbeknown to me, VOX even released Dolby QS encoded cassettes: One example:

They had many cassettes that were QS encoded ,
so as long as the LP was.....QS , then the cassettes were.

I can tell you all from 'inside sources' that the current MFSL has avoided adding the quad tracks to many titles they paid for exclusive windows on, thus "Quad Blocking" any other label from releasing the quad masters due to the licensing window.

As mentioned earlier, Rhino/WMG can do whatever the like because they are the owners of the titles, but MFSL discs like Nilsson's "Nilsson Schmilsson" and many others were put out by MFSL which prevented other labels like Audio Fidelity from licensing the title.

Not just during the exclusive window. But after the window expired, the cost of putting out a title that was recently released by MFSL was not financially sound as the addition of the quad tracks was not enough to make the general population go out and buy the same title again.

I would have to say that the term "Quad Blocking" would not exist in the world if it were not for Music Direct and their ownership of what used to be a leader in quadraphonics, Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs

Jon, I would have to say that the MOST egregious example of MoFi's QUADBLOCKING was S&G BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER which CDJapan had earmarked for a QUAD SACD release in their special 7" packaging.

As soon as MoFi announced their pricey 1 Step VINYL and Stereo SACD releases of this iconic album, CDJapan canceled their QUAD SACD release!

I certainly hope that in 2025, CDJapan releases not only BOTW in QUAD but S&G's BOOKENDS as well [which does have an unreleased QUAD remix]!

I still think that Music Direct carrying Quadio BD releases and Mobile Fidelity releasing quad product are two very different things. It doesn’t not suggest MFSL have had any reevaluation on the subject. But It does speak to the buyers in that the Quadio line is an upscale product worthy of audiophile interest at Music Direct.

It is great to see Quadio releases get noticed in the market place. The online stores know how to position these discs in a way that retail stores didn’t back in 1999-2004 with SACD and DVD-Audio that’s for sure!

Nope. That was a different situation. MoFi's license would have been North America-specific, and CDJapan is just a retailer. The prospective label was Sony Japan, and Sony Japan—the parent company of Columbia Records, who own the Simon & Garfunkel recording catalogue—could have freely released Bridge Over Troubled Water during MoFi's exclusivity period, just as Rhino can release a Quadio of any Warner title licensed to MoFi. It was speculated that Paul Simon, as writing (and maybe publishing?) copyright holder to the songs, vetoed the release. None of the quad mixes of his albums have seen digital rereleases.

But a couple of Paul Simon quad mixes are or were streaming on Apple ….is pretty close.

I believe Simon has now sold his interest in the S&G publishing as well as recorded masters. Sold his solo masters as well but retained the publishing, something like that. So the BOTW album could now if I am correct be issued on a 7” series SACD in Japan without as much red tape involved.
