Here's an interesting trend in high end audio.
Just as double rate Direct Stream Digital (DSD128) Digital to Analog Converters (DACs) were becoming common place, now we are seeing audio makers introducing Quad Rate DSD Converters (DSD256). That is 4 times the sampling rate used for Super Audio CDs (DSD64).
In addition to earlier products with DSD256 from exaSound (e20 Stereo DAC, e22 Stereo DAC, e28 Multichannel 8-Channel DAC), Pyramix (Horus Pro 8-Channel DAC) and Oppo (HA-1 Stereo Headphone Amp/DAC), the latest are from Mytek & iFi.
Mytek is selling a new Stereo DAC with DSD256 and PCM and DXD support up to 384kHz available in July. In iFi's case, it's a free software upgrade to their popular $189 portable iDSD Nano, Stereo USB DAC/Headphone amp that is available now.
