Any fans of Pain of Salvation and their semi-theatrical live performance DVD of “BE” from 2005?
Ambitious, pretentious, over-the-top, utterly unique and perfectly executed. It borders on Spinal Tap goofiness in places but I absolutely love it. Pain of Salvation have always been one of my favorite bands and this album is unlike anything else out there.
Notably, this show was staged before the studio album was recorded so lyrics and arrangements differ in places. It’s also performed more like a musical/stage production; live string section, a set, props, choreography, and seated audience. And a pool on stage. I believe the live strings were also used on the studio album later.
And Daniel’s vocal performance is godly.
The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix included is listed as 4.1 in the menu with a silent center channel. It has a decent amount of discrete elements outside of room ambience; strings, and fx/voice overdubs.
It’s a 10 out of 10 from me, even with the lackluster video quality.
