He’s spoken positively about both AMLOR and The Division Bell on The Album Years?
That's interesting. I haven't kept up with the podcast (I hate podcasts in general) but I know he said things like how early Porcupine Tree was him making the kind of music he would've liked from PF at that point. Maybe he's softened a bit with age.

It's amazing how tastes differ. Some things I listen to and don't like but I can understand what people see in it. But Animals I listen to and there's nothing to like or dislike, it's just a total non entity and waste of space to me. Odd.
I get it. 15% of the albums people here rave about do absolutely nothing for me so it’s not that odd. There are a lot of factors besides what’s between the grooves that determine whether someone likes a song or not.

it is amazing.
Animals is my favorite - Dave’s angry guitar work.
And Final Cut comes in at #2 - I am blown away by the lyrical imagery.

More info on SDE and it says SW remixed the extra songs CWTAE AND SOS in Atmos but they didn’t include them!! I smell a SDE exclusive edition coming out eventually.
The Good/Bad news is we are getting them in Atmos… on streaming.

From the Spatial Audio Database (Ben Dodson) scan of the album, these tracks on two “discs”* shows both getting Atmos mixes.

*Not sure if this functionality is on the Apple TV version of Apple Music yet, but a recent iOS update changed how “discs” work in Apple Music. Now when you tap the header text that says “Disc 1” or “Disc 6” or whatever you can play *just* that disc, and it will stop after. So if you’re listening to a big multi disc release and want to take it part by part, now you can.

What do you think of the Film Quad version?

It's what you'd want from a circa 1974 quad mix, plenty of flashy 'round the room' panning during the wilder parts, and where they do have overdubs (like the double double-tracked vocals on Echoes) they pin things to the four corners of the room. But I think you can kind of tell that it's basically four mono instrument feeds plus vocals, and while they did what they could with 1974 technology, I'm looking forward to the sonic upgrade that SW's work looks like it will provide. It's hard to say anything definitive about the actual sound quality of the quad mix because it's from a 35mm print of the film - I'm glad I got to hear it in some form though. Am I disappointed it's not on this new Blu-Ray? Sure, but I can live without it. I'm not sure if we even know that the quad master still exists for this - Adrian Maben told me that Roger "took the multitrack to LA in 1974" when I asked him about the master tapes in 2013 (which turned out to be true, since we've now had two remixes from it) but he didn't know what the status of the quad master was. To be totally honest I'm still kind of burned out on listening to Pompeii, mostly because I spent more than a month's worth of evenings on the footage of Rick and David doing the vocal overdubs for Echoes alone for the Chit Chat with Oysters documentary, fixing all the scratches and other film damage and grading the footage on a shot-by-shot basis. I'm hoping that seeing this new presentation in immaculate quality will kind of let me enjoy 'the forest' rather than seeing 'the trees' when i hear Overhead the albatross... for the 500th time, haha.

On a side note I watched the King Crimson documentary last night, I had no idea they performed at Pompeii in 2018! Aside from Floyd and Gilmour I think Crimson is the only other band to have performed there. Here’s a couple of pics from Tony Levin’s road diary
Yup. And i think this was the last performance allowed there.

Preordered from Amazon. The chances of a 50th Wish You Were Here set remastered by Steven Wilson seem higher now. Come on Sony you spent all that money to acquire their catalog, now do something awesome with it.
One of those that I MUST have. Pre ordered this morning . Is the 5.1 Dolby or DTS? Curious...

Pink Floyd at Pompeii MCMLXXII

Once again.... curious. We prefer DTS 5.1 and have for YEARS. Opinions with no answers.. love that sht! 🤣
It will be either DTS HD MA 5.1, Dolby True HD 5.1, or LPCM 5.1. All are lossless so no difference.

Now if we're actually talking DTS 5.1 as used on DVD-Video or Laserdisc then yes I agree it is far better than Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC-3), but that comparison is ancient history.

Presuming they're all fed identical audio for encoding, that DTS-HD MA, Dolby TrueHD and LPCM are digitally identical upon decoding is a statement of fact, unlike 'we prefer DTS' which is an opinion. There's no need to be condescending to people who take the time to reply to yoru queries, even if it isn't the response you were looking for.
