Holy crap:

Emergency managers in Taylor County, Florida, are not messing around.
The officials, who oversee low-lying towns including Steinhatchee and Perry, posted on Facebook Thursday afternoon to ask all residents who chose not to evacuate to grab a permanent marker and write their name and date of birth on their leg.
The unspoken message: You will not survive this. Help us identify you.
If you or someone you know chose not to evacuate, PLEASE write your, Name, birthday and important information on your arm or leg in A PERMANENT MARKER so that you can be identified and family notified.

Officials also asked friends and relatives of people who did not evacuate to reach out and share the information, so search and rescue teams know where to focus their efforts when the storm passes.

A bit bombastic there 🙄

If the evacuation order and non-stop weather reports haven’t influenced a person’s decision to leave, will the use of hyper language in an attempt to try and shock someone into taking a category 4 hurricane evacuation order seriously move the decision making needle?

“ Well I didn’t take the hurricane seriously until they brought up toe tags”

Just leave it at stating.
“We will not be putting first responder’s lives in jeopardy cause you didn’t evacuate.
As of this time and date, we will not launch rescue missions until the storm and danger have effectively moved past.”

I only hope that the same emergency officials had a pre-evacuation plan that included messaging on how they could help people who don’t have the means, or are physically / mentally unable to execute an evacuation plan.

It was on our local station... the drama queen approach is not helpful in these situations...just a local yokel trying to practice amateur psychology...the local newscasters didn't come out and say anything but you could tell they realized how stupid it was...
