In the course of writing my last post about Sylva I took myself to the Snarky Puppy YouTube channel which has just posted this video:

An alternate version of the song Gretel (which appeared on Sylva) from the sessions that produced their 2014 release, We Like It Here.

The band's website shows a pre-order for a new expanded edition of the album on vinyl in January 2025 along with a digital release on December 6th and has the following information:

--

A four-LP box set that includes the original audio from We Like It Here remixed and remastered, along with a companion record of never-before heard alternate takes of the album, including the song “Gretel” that was recorded and released on Snarky Puppy’s Sylva.

From the moment Snarky Puppy played its first overseas show to a sold-out London crowd, they felt at home in Europe. Recorded and filmed live with a studio audience over 4 nights in the Netherlands, 'We Like It Here' captures the band at its most explorative point in its career, in both composition and improvisation. Celebrating 10 years and 73 million streams since the original We Like It Here was released, the Remixed + Remastered + Reimagined version includes 8 original tracks, 8 alternate take tracks, and 1 bonus track.

Tracklist:
1. Shofukan (Remixed + Remastered)
2. What About Me? (Remixed + Remastered)
3. Sleeper (Remixed + Remastered)
4. Jambone (Remixed + Remastered)
5. Kite (Remixed + Remastered)
6. Outlier (Remixed + Remastered)
7. Tio Macaco (Remixed + Remastered)
8. Lingus (Remixed + Remastered)
9. Shofukan (Alternate Take)
10. What About Me? (Alternate Take)
11. Sleeper (Alternate Take)
12. Jambone (Alternate Take)
13. Kite (Alternate Take)
14. Outlier (Alternate Take)
15. Tio Macaco (Alternate Take)
16. Lingus (Alternate Take)
17. Gretel (Bonus Version)

There's no information (yet) about an Atmos release, but given what the band's leader Michael League said on Instagram about remixing Sylva ("Experiencing music in this setting (7.1.4), surrounded by twelve speakers, is so special. This is the third album I’ve worked on in Atmos, but it’s the first orchestral project, and I don’t know how I can go back to stereo…") it would surprise me if this stereo mix wasn't the product of an Atmos mixing session.

I guess we'll know soon enough as December 6th is barely three weeks from now - the Atmos mixes for Sylva and Empire Central both dropped concurrently on streaming services with their stereo counterparts, so the same should happen if an Atmos mix of We Like It Here exists. Perhaps in the meantime I could encourage my emissary for earthly matters @humprof to reach out (again) to GroundUP and ask if an Atmos Blu-Ray is in the works.
