OPPO BDP-83 Special Edition Blu-ray player

Hi All!! Does anybody on here have one of these is it much better than the standard universal player they make.

I have the standard BDP-83. I believe with using only HDMI, it makes no differerence. If you use the analog outs, it probably is beneficial. I had a Denon DVD-3910 that I thought sounded better (fuller, fatter, warmer, more bass) using analog out as compared to the Oppo, but currently only use HDMI so no big deal anymore. Great player overall by the way.

As an alternate: Here is a mod that claims to benefit both HDMI and the analogs. http://www.tweakaudio.com/EVS-2/Oppo_BDP-83_Mods.html. No endorsement on my part!

So, since I did not really answer your question, I too am interested in what anyone else has to say that owns one.

There is a write up about the SE from a member here who has one. I think it was written by dwight. I can't remember what thread its in however.

I had the SE upgrade done to the regular Oppo BDP-83. The new audio board brings more clarity, detail and quieter playback to the table via the analog outputs. I found it worth the upgrade price.

Yes i like analog best and i like the fact that it can play many formats, alltho it is abit pricey at £800 for the se model herel.

Finally got my "Oppo BDP-83 Special Edition Universal Blu-ray Player". Fantastic 5.1 analogue sound quality! I have it plugged into my Tascam M-30 8-Channel Analogue Mixer -> 3-Onkyo M-506RS Analogue Amplifiers -> Vizio VF552XVT HDTV. Truely a "State Of The Art" very versatile audio player.
