Select the optical DD output from your player (to your receiver) to BITSTREAM instead of PCM.
That is, if you have that option in your player...
It happened to me first, with the Keane "Hopes & Fears" and then , with Rush "Snakes & Arrows".
The Keane had audio dropouts throughout the disc, but the giveaway was an off center(fr right) placed lead vocal which arose my suspicion that maybe it wasn't the disc, but something in my system...so I changed the optical audio out option in my dvd player from PCM to Bitstream...and VOILÁ pristine audio and separation- like night and day!!!!
You see, I had had no problems decoding dts, AND I always wondered why the DD 5.1 sounded like shite compared to the DTS one.
The greatest "offender" was the Rush MVI surround sound mix, which in PCM is MUSH :=P and in Bitstream is a very good mix!
PLEASE CHECK THIS IF YOU HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THESE DISCS!!!
(I searched in the forums and found no threads about this..)
