Props for the Tommy Bolin trifecta.
In an alternate universe, this Friday Rhino is releasing quad versions of Spectrum, Mind Transplant, Come Taste The Band, Teaser, Private Eyes, Bang and Miami.

Since it’s an alternate universe, they all exist and seven releases at one time is normal for Rhino.

Also in this alternate universe, fans still hate on Last Concert in Japan.

As I write this, humprof's list is up to 140 titles. Let's say you could get them for an average of $5 a pop. That's $700 for the lot...a significant sum for college age people at that time, even those of us who had part time jobs.

In today's dollars, that is $4,121. No wonder I could only afford to buy several of them back then. I had some in quad which were even more money.
I’ve always thought that the reason most are attached to the music they bought when they were young (and poor), was because you couldn’t afford it all. Therefore the albums you bought got listened to until you could afford the next one and you got intimate with them. We had a limited supply of music because we had a limited supply of money.

Once I could afford to go to the record store every Tuesday (now Friday) and buy 3 or 4 albums a week if I wanted to, only a relatively few of them got listened to more than ten times. As as result there are fewer that are as revered as those early albums. I know there are other factors involved, including the whole being young versus being older deal.

I wonder if today’s generation and those who rely on streaming will ever reach that level of intimacy with (as many) albums as we did. After all, they can listen to as much new music as they want and an unlimited supply.
