I am considering selling my 88 DVD-Audio discs to
raise money to pay back student loans. I must prioritize.
School must come first.

Whether I sell depends on whether I can sell some of
my guitar amps, which I am trying to do now.
It also depends upon how much my collection would bring.
(I really do not want to sell my amps or my DVDA's).

I thought I'd give QQ members first crack at the whole collection
before I put each individual disc up on Ebay.

There are some really rare discs in the collection. Most are out
of print. Many are unavailable.

For example, I have a JVC sampler called "Beyond"
that was only available as an accessory with
their first DVD-Audio player. It has 11 songs from
artists such as Yes (From House of Yes - Live From House of Blues),
Blondie, Motley Crue, Sammy Hagar. You can't get these
songs elsewhere as they never were released
commercially in the DVDA format.

So here's the list:

The Doors Perception Box Set (Six DVDAs with all of the Doors music in 5.1. There are bonus songs and video on each of the six discs. This is THE definitive Doors collection.)
Black Sabbath Paranoid (3 disc collectors edition with 2 CDs + DVDA of original quad mix).
Yes Fragile
Yes Magnification
The Beatles Love (Includes the CD as well).
Steely Dan Two Against Nature
Steely Dan Everything Must Go

I am going to take offers starting at $2250. That means that I am charging
about $25 per disc. I will not entertain lower offers.

I will know if I must sell within a few weeks. I will monitor this site regularly
over the next two weeks for questions and offers through PMs. I can attach
pics of the discs in an email if you want to see them.

All of them, except the Fixx disc are used. They are all in excellent condition,
and fully playable with one exception. The jewel box for The Nightfly is broken,
but it still protects the disc well. That is the only issue I can see
with any of these discs.

Bonus:

If I get an offer of $2500 or over, I'll include your choice of either

Chicago Transit Authority (Rhino 5.1 DTS 24/96) and
Best of Aretha Franklin (Rhino DTS 24/96)

OR

The following 16 DTS Cds:

David Benoit American Landscapes
DMP Big Band The Glen Miller Project
DMP Big Band Tribute to Duke Ellington

If I am offered over $2700, you get both bonuses.

Check out my feedback on Ebay. My username there is Scratch17.
I have a 100% rating with 349 transactions.

Much of my rating was earned as a seller before feedback was only
offered to buyers.

Payment is to be made through Paypal. Sorry, I can't accept any other
form of payment. I'll ship as soon as the payment clears Paypal and is in my account.

Shipping is free via media mail through the USPS to the continental USA.

Faster shipping via UPS will cost extra. The amount will depend on your zip, and
delivery time requirement. I will charge only what the UPS store charges me. I will provide the UPS receipt in the box with the discs.

I am shipping from Plano, Texas, 75094, so you can get a good estimate.
Assume 15 to 20 pounds weight for the package. I will double box and ship with
insurance.

I will ship to Canada via USPS Priority mail for $75.

The 3 disc set, from Universal, called the Deluxe Edition, has the original album CD and a 'bonus tracks' CD, from 1970.
The back of the package lists disc two as "DVD-Audio: 5.1 STS + 2.0 LPCM Stereo".
Disc two's label says "Audio Formats: " and then repeats this wording.

The label also says, "1974 Quadraphonic mix DVD". It has the DVD video logo on it,
not the DVD-Audio logo.

The booklet repeats this description yet again.

I agree that this is confusing. So I did some experiments.

I believed the packaging and assumed disc 2 was a DVD-Audio disc,
so I've been using the analog outputs from my OPPO DV-970H. A true
DVD-Audio disc would have no output through a SPDIF
digital output which is limited to stereo.

When I selected the coaxial SPDIF output, I was surprised to hear a
surround mix. What was even more surprising is that the DTS indicator
on my Marantz pre/processor came on. So I checked the center channel
and it was playing!

Then I switched back to the analog multichannel outs from the OPPO
and the center channel was still playing!

So Universal Music Group mislabeled the entire package. This is
obviously a new 5.1 mix, and DTS format, not a quad DVD-Audio
as the package claims. Possibly they considered the 2.0 LPCM mix
as qualifier to claim DVD-Audio format.

It was not my intention to misrepresent this in any way.
I apologize for any confusion this has caused.

So, to be perfectly clear, I am selling 85 DVD-Audio discs
two DAD stereo discs, and one DTS 5.1 / DAD stereo disc.

Steven,
Just a thought, but most members on this board already have a collection. You may generate more interest if you offer them here separately. It is a nice collection, by the way, and sorry you need to let some or all of it go.

Bob Marley and the Whalers - Best Of The Early Years - A Silverlie DVD-A. You are pretty right though, it stinks.
Venice Underground - Self Titled. This one is a great disc but only DD and DTS unfortunately.

Nice colection! I have near every one you have save a few classical ones and then some.
I would however, like dibs on the McCartney - Band On The Run DTS CD if you decide to go a one by one route.
(Which may generate you more money although it can be a pain.)
I may be doing something similar with a lot of my Quad albums as I have little space to store them anymore.
Good luck!

-Bob

If you decide to sell individual discs and would entertain the idea of postage to the UK I would be very interested in both your Yes albums and the Pat Metheney too....

Very sorry to read that you're having to part with these for financial reasons!

Best wishes

Martin

Nice collection Steven, if you decide to sell the discs individually I would be very interested in The Nightfly and Kamikiriad.

Best of luck to you,

If you go individually, I would like Paul McCartney - Venus And Mars and Paul Simon - You're The One if they're reasonably priced.

I would have to agree that it may be difficult to find anyone to drop $2,500, unless they would want to resell them, since many of us have them. I probably have 90% of the titles myself...but if you are taking bids...The Last Waltz disc is of personal interest. Let us know which way you decide to ultimately go on these. John Svensson

Thanks for the replies, gentlemen.

By the way, I got tricked twice. Beach is correct that Venice Underground doesn't have a DVDA layer,
as it was sold to me years ago.

I will probably put all of the discs up for sale individually after I try to sell the collection as a whole
in an Ebay auction.

I still don't want to sell, but I have only sold one amp: my Polytone 104 (George Benson's favorite amp).
I need more than the $450 it brought me.

Steven

The entire list is still for sale.

Unfortunately, my Dad (87 years young) had some more mini-strokes
last week and is in the hospital. As a result, I am covered up
for the next week or so. I'll try to monitor this thread as best
I can during that time.

Steven

Sorry to hear about your Dad. Hope everything works out for the best. I'm just getting into high-end audio disc's and would be interested in acquiring your entire collection, should you decide you have to part with it.

Nick
