For better or worse, I have a slanted ceiling. On the lower side, I cut a 1" x 4" board slightly bigger than my speaker mounts, painted them, and screwed to the rafters, then screwed the speaker mounts into the board.
For the "high" side, I have some very heavy duty swivel mounts (not sold anymore, for some reason) placed so as to put all height speakers on the same horizontal plane. These are lagged into the 2x4 wall framing.
All those speaker mounts allow for adjustment vertically and horizontally, and all 4 heights are pointed at the MLP. All speakers are enclosed cabinet speakers.

I did not try to fish any speaker wire through the walls, as I did not want to take down/replace any sheetrock, but instead used the largest rectangular cable concealer/raceways I could find, which will fit if you are careful, six 12 gauge stereo speaker wires. The raceways come with "sticky tape" that hold them to the walls, but they also came with drywall inserts and screws I did not use.

The raceways came in white, but are paintable. The kits had connector fittings for 90* turns, straight connectors, "T's" and corners.

I assume that's the view from your house? Awesome. My dream home would be out in the country with no neighbors nearby. I always thought my townhouse was my starter home and once I married I get some version of my dream home. But then I never got married... Any female crazy enough to want to marry me was just too damn crazy for me... o_O
:D This moon-rise was Christmas Eve from the back porch, 2015. I wish we were WAY in the sticks too. But not quite.
One day, you just might meet a great gal...just as crazy as you. I did....but we were only 11 when we met.... teenagers when we married. Poor woman.....

The other moon shot (moon-set) was from the front porch, but focused over the top of the next home out in front/right of us some. We are at the end of a dead end dirt road. Between two mountain ranges. Love it!
;)

Hi everyone...please forgive this basic ATMOS question. My AVR has the ATMOS feature, but it's only one channel. I have two height speakers connected to it. My question is, if I were to add another set of height speakers to go from 5.1.2 to 5.1.4, do I simply add the additional height speakers in series with the existing ones, or do I need a new AVR that has more than one ATMOS channel output? Thanks.....

You will need a new receiver that does at least 9 channels.

A single height channel? Thats different. What model is the AVR?

Like @himey said, you will need something with 9 channels of amplification. As it is, you should have 7 channels of amplification for 5.1.2. Why are you a channel short?

Are the existing 2 speakers connected in series or parallel? You have to watch out for impedance issues when running multiple connected speakers.

Thanks for your interest in my question. It's a Marantz SR 5015, and I am using the pre-outs with four amplifiers: front, back, center, and ATMOS. In the attached, you'll see that I am using the "surround back" channel for ATMOS.

That isn’t only one speaker for atmos, they quite clearly say assignable which means you can choose height left and right which means you cannot use the surround back channels as well, you have to go into settings and tell the avr to use 5.1.2

That isn’t an atmos capable avr i’m afraid, surround back connections wont decode atmos signals, you need a specific avr that has height or assignable speaker terminals
The SR 5015 is an ATMOS device. The AVR gives you the option of designating the "surround back" channel as ATMOS, and that's how I have it working nicely. My question is, if I added two more ATMOS speakers, would I need another "surround back" channel in the AVR?

I’ve changed my reply

You would need a 9 channel avr to add more atmos channels, you can then tell it to decode 5.1.4

I have a Pioneer Elite SC-701 avr and have a 7.1.4 speaker setup. There are only 9 channels of amplification so I needed to purchase a stereo amplifier and use the PRE OUT SURROUND BACK through a separate stereo amplifier.

Thanks Andy. Your post goes right to the heart of my question. Does the Pioneer have only one pre-out for the surround back? If so, how do you get four speakers from it?

I have similarly labeled outputs on my Oppo 105, and had similarly labeled inputs and outputs on my Marantz 7701, which came out before Atmos, so it certainly wouldn’t decode Atmos metadata. TBH, I don’t believe I ever found any media with those “height” channels included.

But if that unit has Atmos, then I’d say both channels should be used for the ceiling speakers.

Thanks. When you write "both channels", are you referring to the left/right of the one "surround back" channel on the SR 5015?
