I thought it was kinda funny that we expend effort to try to get low distortion, low noise, flat frequency response and low phase shift in our home audio systems, meanwhile, some record companies were intentionally adding distortion between the master tape and master disc.
It's also interesting about the bass cut at 70Hz on the Motown 45s.
