Next up is to have another listen to 'Tales of Mystery and Imagination'.
Now *there* is a good record.
The below all off topic for this thead and just my opinion but I guess I just can't resist since the title was mentioned, as it's a personal favorite of mine and was a huge influence on my own music.
Feel free to ignore/delete/whatever
One again, the original 'Tales' stereo mix kills. The Mobile Fidelity variant is my go to for that. Here was a young producer/engineer at his peak. On *fire*.
Much later, like ZZ Top, Alan got tempted by 'modern' drum sounds and swapped those in for a late 80s mix with, like ZZ Top, *horrifying* results. What were they thinking?
. In the case of 'Tales' the late 80s drum sound Alan chose was nowhere near as bad as what ZZ Top did, to be fair.
The more recent multichannel mix of 'Tales' returned the original drum tracks. Yay.
Still, the multi mix of 'Tales' just doesn't have the pure fire and passion the same guy had decades earlier. No surprise really. Still, great to have of course.
We all know the record we're *really* awaiting a multichannel mix for.......
And honestly, I know this might be sacrilegious to some, but I pray Alan hangs up his mixing spurs and just turns that one over to the guy we know who would hit a home run with it......
