Just heard the 2025 remaster on Spotify. Wasn't impressed. They squashed the high end out of it (what was left of it). (cymbals) Having second thoughts about getting the A.S. SACD and may just wait for Royal Scam.
Word on the street--SHF Street--is that the new vinyl mastering is better (the comparatively inexpensive UMe 33-1/3 version, not AP's pricey UHQR box).

That's my feeling too, though I wouldn't quite use that level of hyperbole. The top end is more rolled-off, though not by a ton, than even the '80s CDs which weren't exactly trebly to start with - I found myself turning the volume up continuously through my listen, trying to 'hear' those lost top end details, and about 2/3 through the album I was listening at a volume that was nearly 30% louder than usual because of that feeling that I had cotton in my ears. I felt the same way with the recent Grundman remaster of Pretzel Logic as well, neither of these would be my first choice if I wanted to listen to these albums. It's a shame too, because the actual tape transfer is superb in spite of the EQ choices, I think you can really hear how far A/D conversion technology has come in 40 years.
