Yes, I've listened to 20 of the 30 tracks. Musically, it's spectacular. The fidelity is the best I've ever heard of these sessions, though not ultra high fidelity. After all, they are from the early 1950's. I believe tomorrow is the street date. YOU NEED IT!!

The mention of Joe South deserves some comment about this artist....he passed away in 2012 at the age of 72...he was a multi talented guy...wrote hit songs for other artists...like Down In The Boondocks...and Hush...he also was a guitar player on Dylan's Blonde on Blonde....Aretha Franklin's Chain of Fools...Simon and Garfunkel's Sounds of Silence and Tommy Roe's Sheila...he battled depression most of his life after the tragic suicide of his brother Tommy in 1971...any mention of Joe needs to be followed by this hit song

I'm pretty sure that clip came from the Beat Club TV series.

Games people Play won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year in 1970. The song has been covered by Jerry Lee Lewis, Tesla, The Georgia Satellites, Big Tom and The Mainliners, Bill Haley and His Comets, The Tremeloes, Johnny Johnson & the Bandwagon, Ike and Tina Turner, Dreadzone, Hank Williams Jr., Inner Circle as well as others. It was also mentioned in the Brian Wilson song "Games Two Can Play" from his unreleased album Adult Child.

I STRONGLY recommend QQ'ers investigate one of the many "Best of" packages by Joe South.

I did that on a whim a while back when I saw one for $5. Almost immediately after I bought it, Joe South died. I'm not comfortable with that power.

Several years ago, I was in Vegas. I could have seen George Carlin, but opted for The Beatles' Love instead. "Carlin plays Chicago often, so I'll see him there," I said to myself. A couple weeks later, he was gone.

More recently, I was invited to meet Johnny Winter in Milwaukee. We had something else planned that day, so I didn't go. 10 days later, he was gone.

Oh, well...

Since nothing is "really off topic" here in the all about music...I mean....if you stretch your imagination....everything is all about music. So with that feeble attempt to excuse the fact that I'm posting this picture...here it is.

A pretty common site here in rural Chile. Much of the roads are dotted with brick/concrete block walls, that are covered with some sort of vegetative growth...to hide all the little dwellings within. Many, if not most of those dwellings seem to be selling little snacks, breads, drinks, etc. For the passerbuyers. That's what this is...and they are everywhere along the countryside....no signs...you just have to know.

Actually, yes, I did. Seriously. These Chileans LOVE...and I mean...LOVE to play loud music. I really don't know what sort of systems they have...but something tells me they don't have KLIPSCH speakers. Regardless....it is blaring most all the time...from somewhere. Funny actually.

It's time for a birthday salute...but first... Happy Mother's Day to all those special moms out there...we wouldn't be here without those dedicated unsung heroes who brought us into this world....I have fond memories of my mom...such an unselfish person that made a lot of personal sacrifices to provide me with everything I needed growing up...


Now for that birthday salute...it's for Paul David Hewson who turns 55 today...better known as Bono from the band U2...I really loved their early work..songs like Sunday Bloody Sunday...New Years Day... Where The Streets Have No Name...they had a unique sound...they became too Hollywood for my tastes in their later work and I pretty much lost interest...although I don't think Edge gets enough credit for his guitar skills...

I agree, I loved them in the 80's, but they started to lose me in the 90's. The first time I saw them was right after War came out. It was a free outdoor concert in the middle of Hartford. Only about 500 people showed up to see it. It was one of the most fiery, passionate performances I've ever seen.

This is a great overlooked single that came out between October & War.
