I don't think enough people consider the impact of room acoustics on the sound of music....it a HUGE variable that can either make or break sound quality... different surfaces require different adjustments...

Or if they do realize the impact they have limited options. The wife approval factor applies here. But yes, the room is the biggest component of a system. If you don't have total control to adjust it as you see fit the sound will be compromised to some degree.

Hmmm... Baggynz wonders if he should do more to calibrate? My set-up is adjusted just manually, by ear. Are there other recommendations?
I have a Pioneer Elite 7.1 thingamajig.

The two most important things to do are to make sure that: A) your speakers are all equidistant from your listening position or if that's not possible most receivers have a function built in to the receiver to adjust the distance between the speaker and the listening position, so that all sounds arrive at the ear at the same time.
B) Download an SPL meter app on your smartphone, play noise through each speaker one at a time, and make sure they are all outputting at the same SPL level.

The level balancing and placement of the speakers really does make all the difference in the world.

I have learned to not take MoFi SACD titles that have the infamous release date as "to be announced" very seriously...some have been in that status for 2 years...but if this one ever surfaces I would buy it in a heartbeat..an icon album..

Good find, Clint. Yes, MoFi takes FOREVER to release their SACD titles (VINYL is MoFi's FIRST priority)), but this is a great find. Never heard Surrealistic Pillow in Mono even in my old vinyl days. Always sounded somewhat muddled. Perhaps this new SACD remaster will rectify that. Still awaiting MoFi's Carly Simon SACDs which, er, were announced months (or was it a year) ago!

I've been waiting around 2 years for these 2...and they have never surfaced...they do make an appearance in the Acoustic Sounds catalog...but that's as far as it goes(n) maybe acoustic sounds could charge rent for all these MoFi titles that just exist on their website and aren't produced:ugham:

Clint, Acoustic Sounds is likewise guilty of sitting on 'upcoming' SACD remasters, as well, as they, too are first and foremost PRO VINYL. The Peter Paul and Mary albums 1700 and Live in Concert on SACD were announced well over a year ago, as were the Henry Mancini titles http://store.acousticsounds.com/index.cfm?get=results&searchtext=henry,mancini&categoryID=4 and are currently available on Vinyl but not even a release date has been announced for these much anticipated releases on SACD.

Audio Fidelity ARE the reigning champs at releasing SACDs in a timely fashion and still release in Vinyl, as well.

Of course, Surrealistic Pillow is currently available as 2 45rpm LPs from MoFi......ironically, ONLY 34 minutes of music on 4 sides of 2 LPs: http://store.acousticsounds.com/d/110622/Jefferson_Airplane-Surrealistic_Pillow-45_RPM_Vinyl_Record Even I cannot imagine getting up every 8 1/2 minutes to flip over or change a record...........Talk about a "Plastic Fantastic LOVER!"

Whoa - Clint and I both missed the boat on that one.....inexcusable.....I love me some Jim...and The Doors. :) Holy crap - 72!!! Isn't it just hard to imagine Jim croaking out Back Door Man at 72?

I'm always conscious of his death date...July 3rd...because my late mom's birthday was the 4th of July...

Man oh man. I am so tired of being confused about this stuff.

So - I just purchased a FLAC download. I would like to make a copy on CD that I can listen to in my car. I assume my car cannot play FLAC, so I need to convert it to some other format before placing on CD.

Can anyone dumb this down, step by step so I can understand? Geez...this just wears me out. Not sure why it's so complicated for me.

Trader's Little Helper can convert FLAC to wav. From there you could make an audio CD with umpteen burning apps.

Notice the narrative at the bottom of this you tube video....an interesting read about Johnny Rivers...an artist that has had a lot of success but seems to fly under the radar when influential artists of this era are discussed...but he was one of them

Wow! Just received this in the mail today! What a real nice "box set". Now that I have the vinyl in hand - there is NO way in hell I will get rid of them.....the cool factor is too high. Anyway....

Hoping for mine to arrive tomorrow (even though I probably won't have that much time to listen to it until next week)
In the meantime though, even though we all know by now that it's a DVD-V disc, at least they didn't put the incorrect logo on the DVD like what was done for "Loaded" and "Premonitions"
