An interesting programme on BBC radio, that Steven Wilson appears on, called "Compression versus Art":

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06tvgp1

"Trevor Cox asks whether compression can detract from our enjoyment of recorded music - does it matter that what we hear may not be the same as what the musicians heard in the studio? How important is high quality reproduction? He looks at attempts to make music recordings sound louder and louder (the so-called Loudness War) and asks whether anything is lost in the process. And he considers whether making audio file sizes smaller, so that they take up less space on portable devices, means that some of the musical detail is lost. He talks to record producer Steve Levine (who produced Culture Club among many others) mastering engineer Ian Shepherd, the musician Steven Wilson, members of the BBC Philharmonic, and Dr Bruno Fazenda, Senior Lecturer in Audio Technology."

Excellent - many thanks for posting this! I was alerted to it from a number of friends who heard the radio broadcast, but missed it myself so it's great to have a chance to listen to it and post it on.

Today's not only David Bowie's birthday, but today also marks the release of his latest album entitled "BlackStar".
I love it! It's much darker overall than "The Next Day" was, but it's still Bowie at his finest. Not only that, but I detect hints of a Radiohead-like influence on many of the tracks.
I highly recommend all of you give this a stream when you're not divulging your ears with wonderful surround mixes! ;)

Today would have been the birthday of Elvis Presley...he would have been 81...as most know... he died at the age of 42 in 1977 RIP big E

Happy Birthday Pelvis...I'm a huge fan. I think the saddest thing about all these artists that died "young" is you really just have to wonder...what would they be doing now? What more would they have given musically? Would they switch genres? Would they form a super group? Man oh man...the wonders I have.

I've talked about Father John Misty before...but to get the idea about him, check out this video. What's so cool is it's on the Jimmy Kimmel show and the crowd obviously doesn't get him...yet he simply kills it. Watch it all...it's impressive...

Fantastic video and Over the top performance, GOS.

He can Play Misty for me anytime.

Will definitely add this to my "list!"

Didn't realize he's Josh Tillman formerly of Fleet Foxes. What a passionate performer! http://static.spin.com/files/2015/02/09080811/essential-i-love-you-honeybear.jpg

Yep, his albums are great. Fantastic performer, great voice, great lyrics, incredible sense of mischief and professionalism at the same time.
This was pretty great I think: https://vimeo.com/110871335
The applause is exactly the same on the studio version too. :)

Wow! This guy is definitely not interested in more of the same old same-old. Thanks for the heads-up, everyone.

haha - yeah the applause is meant to be part of the song. Took me a while to figure that out.

This post is NOT all about music...it's all about the forum. lol Is it just me, or has the double post thing just gotten way worse since Jan 1? Every single time I try to post, it tells me to either cancel or stay on page or something like that. Also, when I try to send a simple PM, it tells me I can't send a PM for another 160 seconds...each time. And I literally have to wait. UGH....for me, it used to only happen once in a while, now it's almost all the time.

Before y'all tell me to clear my cache....did that. Often. :)

This video makes me so happy:

Steven's words on the video from his Remixes Facebook page:
High resolution music download site Technics Tracks recently filmed me talking about some of my favourite records. I had to select albums that were available from their website, so that limited the choice somewhat (strangely I couldn't find Throbbing Gristle's Second Annual Report in their store (-;), but I ended up picking 3 albums that were very influential on me as a producer.

Anyway, the three albums he picked were "Out of the Blue" by ELO, "Sign of the Times" by Prince, and "Songs from the Big Chair" by Tears for Fears. Enjoy! :)

Currently ripping OUtkast Stankonia DVD-A. I've had this for some time...I personally think it sounds great....yeah, it's rap/R/B, but love it just the same. :)
