"Becoming Led Zeppelin" OFFICIAL documentary coming in 2025

Is that the general consensus on the sound from folks that have seen this at the theatres; that there's not much, if anything in surround?

Yes for the IMAX theater I went to. I didn’t find it to be very immersive at all. I didn’t see anyone say they thought much differently.
This week it was released at non-IMAX theaters so maybe they will weigh in.

Most of the movie is stereo or mono, reflecting the era in which the music was recorded. This is not to say the presentation is weak. Old Zep is powerful music, well delivered in the theater environment.

The one song Whole Lotta Love is effectively mixed in surround, and is an encouraging example of what Zeppelin II could be in 5.1 or Atmos. The movie is definitely worth the price of admission.

I have heard something about it coming to Netflix later this year. I saw it in an imax theater and the presentation, in terms of screen size and powerful sonics, was astounding. Nothing like what you would get at home. Plus seeing it with a bunch of people who appreciate Zeppelin was pretty cool too. After an early live version of How Many More Times ended, a person behind me let out an audible “Wow!”

I believe IMAX theaters have to conform to specific requirements and standards in order to say that they are an IMAX location

You’re right- it was most noticeable in that song

One that surprised me was that during “What is ….”, when Page hits a series of chords after the guitar solo, the chord hits weren’t panned around like they are in the live version on the Led Zeppelin DVD (and when will that be upgraded to Blu-ray and expanded??? )

I couldn't agree more (just think of the Extras that could be included on a Blu-Ray release of this film)! I saw Becoming Led Zeppelin over the weekend and it's Excellent.

Many of the performances in the film have circulated among collectors for decades. My wish would be that an official release would include the complete sources as bonus features.

I went to the iMax screening, was about 6 rows back, way too close, should have sat in the back, some of the grainy footage needs distance, plus the volume was concert level, felt a little bit pummelled by the end, and I’m a big fan. Still it was exciting and epic, loved the candid audio interview with John Bonham, and Robert being basically homeless at the beginning (didn’t realise)

I just saw it at a criminally small screen at Rheged near Penrith. Wish they'd shown it on their bigger screen, and cranked the sound up! Really enjoyed the film, it ends too soon though.
