First LZ album was a great surprise. Loved it! Then I went to an LZ concert and was disappointed to say the least. Joe Walsh was the better guitarist that night and the James Gang was the better band-by a long shot!
So a year or so later I went to see LZ again and was even more disappointed and received affirmation that they (imo) were not really that good. After I had seen them twice I was no longer a fan.
Imo Jimmy Page does not live up to his reputation. Some of the sloppiest playing I have ever seen.
You gotta walk the walk. I’ve seen many bands that could do that. LZ was not one of them.

I’ve only seen LZ live once and I was not disappointed. I did, however, see them before owning the first album(they were an opening act at the time). I have never seen the James Gang in concert but I agree that they seriously rock (and that Joe Walsh is killer on guitar). There is a tiny bit of irony in your post given that Joe sold Jimmy his Les Paul.

Jimmy is well known for being a sloppy player when performing live.

I thought every LZ album was golden up to and including PG. Perhaps PG would have been stronger as a single album instead of a double. After that the albums were weaker but a weak Zeppelin album was still pretty damn awesome.
100 % agree. As a foursome they were pretty solid at every position. Live they were a 3 piece + Vox, pretty impressive considering the studio material they were trying to recreate. Notice the O2 show, although tuned downed, no ear pieces, auto tune, etc, straight up RnR. ITOD was credited for keeping Atlantic records in the black.

Interesting you would say that. My wife just asked me last night if I’d ever seen Zep live and I said, “Yes, they sucked. It didn’t even sound like they were playing in time. James Gang blew them off stage.” Must’ve been the same tour.
Loved the movie, though.

Both Jeff Beck and Van Morrison have the reputation of being phenomenal when they’re on and dreadful when they’re not.

The closest I have come to seeing Led Zeppelin were the two Page and Plant tours. No John Paul Jones but other supporting players and the concerts were good.

Joe Walsh was the better guitarist
He was drunk and only played for 45 minutes when I saw him in Tampa. I still think he is great, but he was awful that night. Jimmy Page and The Firm was an amazing concert. Page was on fire that night.

I'm guessing his live playing got better as he got farther away from the excesses of the 70's when Zep was flying high (in more ways than one). Once he got out of that world of enablers and came back down to earth he could regain his form.

In my movie theater, in the hallway leading to the screening rooms, next to the doors, there’s those little screens showing the movie poster of the movie playing so you don’t go in the wrong room. There’s two screening room with the doors next to each other, and the screens are next to each other too. Did they choose the two movies playing on purpose?!

I went to see it last week. IMAX showing. Im not convinced the bigger screen was a requirement for this type of film. The sound quality was good but by no means a surround standout or anything. The time line of the movie ends with the release of LZ 2. I thought it should have stretched to ZOSO. In the interviews it looks like Page is sitting on some kind of antique throne. Some nice things said about John Bonham.

I felt it was a little meh overall.

I don’t disagree with you but the live performances were enjoyable. Whole Lotta Love was the only song in surround sound. It again served as a sad reminder of what a missed opportunity it has been not to mix and release LZII in surround sound. I have no doubt that Jimmy Page has the original tapes stored away with great care.
