Yeah, the concept of a "white Xmas" does not really occur in Australia. I have never observed weather patterns in Australia (in 61 years) as intensely hot as in the last few months. Us down on the Southern coast have missed it all with actual cool conditions with cool air sucked in from the Antarctic but just 150 km North its been baking hot. Tomorrow many parts of Australia are getting close to 50 C (122 F).

Below is today's map and its been like that for months and we get hottest in February!

Months of smoke haze here south of Brisbane. Nearby rainforests have been on fire. Nothing like it in any living memory. Music gets us still through here, I sense.

Horrified that even whilst Australia is being ravaged by what are only the early impacts of climate change, it is pressing ahead with what has been called "the world's most insane energy project". The government has approved the vast Carmichael mine in the Galilee Basin, which I understand to be an unspoiled region of Queensland. The burning of that coal will emit some 700M tonnes of CO2.

Don't get me started on the profound ignorance of our government!

Thankfully we've managed to get croc attacks down to almost zero here in the UK.
At least here in the UK you can see the garish ones

sneaking up on you!

Just a small note on our Aussie heat wave. Yesterday was now the hottest average temperature all over Australia on record at 41.9 C (107.4 F), the second hottest day was 2 days earlier at 40.9 C! Tomorrow even Melbourne will be 43 C( 109.4 F). Many in the Northern states are migrating down to Tasmania, I don't blame them as taking a week or more of continuously above 40 C really kills you.

In great contrast, 2 days ago when Melbourne was 39 C and our office was 22 C, our lovely but tiny Chinese engineer Kali had her heater on! The Chinese (and Vegan) just cannot take the cold!!! Not being racist but similarly my daughter is a research scientist doing a phd in quantum computational chemistry and she is surrounded with mobs of Chinese students and they turn up in jumpers and again turn the heaters on!!!

As for me, I am Mr Freeze. I remember a few years ago I was visiting B+0 in a remote town North of Denmark, I got off the train after a 500 km ride surrounded by ice and snow - in my tee shirt and went to the local milk bar to get an ice cream while I waited outside for 30 minutes for my taxi. The locals were looking at the strange wooky sized guy in the snow.

But as the Phoenix and Vegas people like to say, “Oh but it’s a dry heat.” So is a pizza oven and a flame thrower!

That reminds me of my first summer job. I worked at a garden centre as a landscaping assistant. The motto was "We grow on you". My immediate boss made it clear he did not like it when he remarked " so does mould"!

If she had 4 fry pans - this would be appropriate for this forum:

Dude that's messed up right there! 🥵
Saves on energy cost on the range, but at too many other costs.
A hot tip on cooking eggs like that- I put a metal lid on the top of my fry pans and the top gets done along with the bottom, and it cooks real fast that way, try it (oh and add a little cheese on top while you're at it for goodness sake!)

Was 46.5 C (115.7 F) on the freeway today in Melbourne!
I feel so sorry for your poor PM, Scott Morrison, who had to cut short his Hawaiian vacation. 😱

Seriously though, it was heartbreaking to hear about the two Aussie volunteer firemen who lost their lives. My heart goes out to them and their families.
