I have a vinyl recording of Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture” that is notorious for being hard to track. The first cannon shot makes a lot of players skip. Even with the naked eye, it’s easy to see where that happens.
I also have a few LPs that have almost an hour’s worth of sound on them. SNR isn’t exactly stellar.
I noticed that my SQ pressing of DSOTM is quite a bit lower level than the original stereo version, although I don’t believe there’s a valid technical reason for it. Most of my SQ LPs seem to be a similar level to the stereo versions.
