You know what really sucks about this. Back when AF was doing their surround/quadraphonic SACDs, I heard that Universal offered the Eltons to them, including the unreleased titles!!!! The stipulation was that they had to license all of them as a lot. However, because the released titles were still going for $10-$15 on the internet (Amazon, CDUniverse, ImportCDs, etc), they did not want to take on the whole lot.

ARGH!!! So close, yet so far.......

Uff-da. (As I used to say when I lived in Minnesota.) Maybe they could see fit to renew that offer--to Michael Dutton.

I even suggested that they take 3 or 4 of the released titles and package them with one unreleased, to make 2 box sets. However, they did not want "to take advantage of their customers", which when you think about it was pretty damn thoughtful of them.

I am sure there would have been some serious howling around here "Why do I have to buy SACDs I already own just to get the one I don't have!", you know the drill.

And of course the question arises......what kind of deal would be offered if Michael Dutton accepted the Elton John Challenge and decided to offer the whole bunch on 5.1 SACD? Not at the 'suggested' $30K a pop licensing fee as offered [most probably] to Audio Fidelity.

I, for one, would probably buy the entire batch to support the cause but in these troubling times, I know a lot of others wouldn't be as accomodating.

Maybe DV would be interested in taking them on. I think they recognize there's a market for them, and it's clear from the comments on the forum that they'd sell quite well. I, for one, would jump at the chance!

waiting for my first SACD player to show up, put me down for any DV EJ releases.
Acoustic Sounds has most of the originals for 20 bux a pop.
Amazing that they're still there! Only EJ, Tumbleweed, and Madman are in stock, though. Honky Chateau & Capt. Fantastic are either out of stock or not listed.

There's some chatter in another thread about Elton SACDs. Two of those titles, Madman & Tumbleweed, are still available cheap at ImportCDs. Only $11.34 each. Grab 'em while you can. Supply of these is starting to dry up. Once they're gone, prices will go up on the secondary market.

Don't forget this one, also very nice...

My first SACD player should be here Monday, thanks for the Madman / Tumbleweed at ImportCDs info; ordered.

I think Honky Chateau is about two-thirds of a perfect album — Honky Cat, Mellow (majorly underrated gem), I Think I’m Gonna Kill Myself, Rocket Man, Amy (great sly dog of a song), and Mona Lisas are all aces in my book.

Unfortunately, Salvation, Slave, and Hercules have never done much for me... and I liked Susie a lot better the first time around, when it was called Ballad Of A Well-Known Gun. ;)

I love, love, love the treatment of the vocal chorus in Salvation and several other early J tracks. ( Rotten Peaches)

Grabbed those two myself at importcds last week. but I think I paid about $17 a piece (no complaints). I had the S/T already, picked up Honky Chateau used for $10 a few weeks back in Princeton. I also have GYBR but have recently discovered disc 2 is missing. :( Not sure if I should seek out a replacement SACD or the BD release instead.

I thought all the Elton John releases SACD's were amazing and mixed really well. I also think the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road DVD Audio is slightly better sounding than the SACD. (Atleast my ears hear it that way) I saw an interview a few years ago with Greg Penny and he "mentioned" that he also remixed "Blue Moves" when doing all the other albums. I am old, and remember buying all these recordings in the 70's & 80's when they were released and would LOVE to hear "Blue Moves" in surround too!!! Maybe someday!

In addition to Blue Moves, Penny also completed 5.1 mixes of Rock of the Westies, Don't Shoot Me and Caribou. To date, they all sadly remain unreleased. 😢
