afaik there were two sets of Elton SHM-CDs with the earlier releases utilising Gus' 95 remasters and the more recent SHM's had new transfers and mastering done in Japan. Thanks for the info. I could have sworn there were a series of EJ releases in Japan that were flat transfers, but cannot remember which series it was. I thought it was those, obviously not. If I think of it, I'll follow-up.
Those original MCA CDs are pretty close to flat transfers, I think.afaik there were two sets of Elton SHM-CDs with the earlier releases utilising Gus' 95 remasters and the more recent SHM's had new transfers and mastering done in Japan.
tbh i'm not sure there's ever been true flat transfers of all of EJ's 70's albums released on CD?
i've hung onto the DJMs and the MCA plaidbacks and Polydors because in several instances some of those 80's EJ CDs most closely resemble the original LPs and in some cases, such as the DJM of Westies, the CDs are so close to the LP i feel they must be flat transfers.
How do they sound? I bought Tumbleweed Connection back in the day but was annoyed by the tape dropout, especially noticeable on "Talking Old Soldiers" so I never bought any others. Was really happy when MoFi eventually put out several favorites. Can still remember that moment when I realized I could hear the piano's mechanism in "Honky Cat"!Those original MCA CDs are pretty close to flat transfers, I think.
I had them so long ago, I barely remember how they sounded except that I thought they were largely flat sounding and I wasn't impressed. I certainly didn't think I was getting anything more from them than I got from the original LPs.How do they sound?
