Those Grado CD-4 instructions are bizarre.
I vaguely remember the "...splat, fuzzy sound..." comment and the Pioneer demod instructions also seem familiar (I may be able to find my Grado FTR+1 w/instructions, its been packed away since late 1976).
edit: Just found my Grado CD-4 cartridge (haven't found the instructions yet) - I'm sure I paid ~$12 for it in 1975, the cylindrical cardboard container has a green and white "CD-4" sticker, the top says "ROUND FCR+1 $39.95" the cartridge itself says FC+, I intended to buy a FTR+1 (evidently I didn't) due to the Audio mag and SR mag reviews.
