Several months ago Elmer made a post regarding a live performance Blu-Ray he was watching: Yello Live in Berlin. I had never heard the name of that band but was familiar, like everyone else, from their most famous song Oh Yeah from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. I was impressed enough from what Elmer said I purchased right away & have loved it ever since. Great dynamic 4.1 dts-HD, deep percussive bass, full soundfield & top notch video quality. Highly recommended. Easy to purchase at you know where.
It says it won’t play in North America but my copy is region free & I had no problem.
So anyways, Yello has an incredible kick ass brass section. You can’t help but notice a statuesque attractive blond (female, that is) playing saxophone. The sax is one of my favorite phones right up there with xylo & head. She really rocks out perhaps exceeding her male partners on stage. The definitive song on the album is The Race & you can see what I mean here:
So a little research shows her name is Fabia Mantwill. She’s a Berlin located musician and very multi-talented. Saxophone, clarinet, sings, composes music. A good place to start is here:
If you watch a few of her vids you’ll see she embraces traditional lounge jazz, also more edgy improv jazz, and classical. How is it possible the world doesn’t know more about her? Or maybe it’s just me.
She has a website called of course fabiamantwill.com. It is somewhat incomplete but has great info & more of her videos you can watch without the usual YouTube distractions.
Sad thing is she has almost zero disc or streaming releases I can find. Just 1 track of her on Discogs.
So I wanted to alert those interested in an awesome talent and also if anyone finds purchasable material by her, please let me know.
