Please post your thoughts and comments on this new Blu-Ray audio compilation from Bryan Ferry entitled "Retrospective".
Available exclusively from the SDE store, the Blu-Ray Audio disc features Bob Clearmountain Dolby Atmos and 5.1 surround mixes of 20 songs from across Bryan Ferry's entire solo career.

It's 1:30 in the morning, thought I would check out a few tracks before I went to bed. I cherry picked a couple of songs from the Stereo only stuff to start. Sounded great. Then I picked just one Atmos track to end the night... 'As Time Goes By.' Gave me goosebumps. Can't wait to hear the rest of it but I already know:

JESUS CHRIST THIS RELEASE IS GOOD.

Very short, this is how Atmos has to sound, every speaker is active. And Bryan's music in SACD sounded already good, but this is even better is my personal opinion. Reference disk

I try not to give out too many 10’s but this release just sucks you in. Agree with HenkG. Excited to see if some more Roxy comes out. The speakers get a great workout.

I liked it, but in my 40Hz-up subwoofer-less condo system, I could have used a bit more concussiveness. I voted a 9. Just two of my favorite songs, too—was expecting a couple more.

Obviously a Clearmountain, heavy use of Center- good but I'd prefer a little less of that Front Center and a better front speaker spread - so have to give it an 9.

I'm giving it a 9 for a similar reason: I LOVE the channel placement and the selection of songs, but there's something off to me about the (EQ?) that I can't quite put my finger on. Not enough to ruin it by any means, but it's another frustrating case where my idiot brain says "Something's not quite right" but can't be bothered to elaborate!

Woke up this morning with that gloriously wrong version of "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" stuck in my head. I love it to death while at the same time feeling like it's just outrageously inappropriate for the actual song.

This is great but not quite a ten, and I'm one of those people who can be quite generous with tens. It's really great getting some deeper tracks, but still a bit naggingly weird we don't have the likes of The Price of Love (which they even display the artwork for as a part of the screen's rotating images) and The Right Stuff. That kind of bugs me. So nine.

Wouldn't it have been amazing if those bonus songs were also in Atmos? And the liner notes are painfully bland - confined to lifelessly written praise for the songs - no interesting revelations, facts or quotes from anyone. But I won't deduct extra points for those things which I consider to be extracurricular to the album proper.

Clearmountain still coming from 5.1 mixes. His Atmos mixes are good 7.1 (using discretely sides and rears), but not too much the Tops.
Hope he will evolve, like Wilson, to spread main vocal through the Wides.

His studio just burned down, so he’ll certainly have to adapt.
For better or worse, to each of us, who knows?!

Glad to experience a retrospective of Bryan Ferry. Sure, the first few tracks sound like 5.1, but the channel separation is enjoyable. The atmospheric tracks are perfect for Atmos treatment and Clearmountain does a fine job (IMHO). I enjoyed the 16 stereo bonus tracks. Don't Be Cruel was a big surprise. I also like the packaging. Hat's off to Paul Sinclair and SDE crew. A strong 9 and highly recommended.

I had really big expectations for this disc and i even think it is better than i had hoped for!
To start with i remember how much i loved the audio on Hard rain´s gonna fall when the LP came in the seventies. This release lifts it up to another level. I am not an real fan of everything Bryan has done. But i realize that there are many songs i hadn´t heard that are really good. Also some songs i haven´t liked are better than my memory of them.

This is absolutely an 10

Giving this one a “9”. I love the material - fantastic Bryan Ferry tunes - the Atmos mix starts off kind of weak - the first several tunes have a deficit of low end impact and sort of odd EQ choices, but as the disk progresses it gets much better with some tunes being quite memorable.
Still I don’t know if it’s just unique to my system, but it needed a significant bass boost to before it really kicked my tail.

Definitely a keeper!
