If you hear "faint voices" it is one of two things. 1) You need your medication adjusted or 2) you are having RF interference pickup which originates in a radio transmitter. This can be because you live to close to some kind of broadcast tower or there is a ham radio operator down the road apiece who is running a "kewl kilowatt" transmitter probably more than legally powered , or even worse a CB illegal operator that has a 1000 watt linear amplifier attached to his CB set. RF can be eliminated by putting splittable ferrites on the cables both the power and the signal. The frequencies they block are RF only.
Sometimes as @MidiMagic has observed hum and RFI and other noise can be weird. I have had similar experiences to the clock on the wall occurence.
