I'm confused; why aren't dual discs DVD-Audio side lossless? This doesn't seem to be a Sony dualdisc, but I may be wrong.

Apparently because videos are included, this is in fact not DVD-A but DVD-V, which are not "lossless."

Like all those horrible, un-listenable Jethro Tull 5.1s.

Some DualDiscs weren't lossless so that the consumers couldn't get a "perfect copy", AFAIK.

I actually haven’t heard the Bill Withers Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks before; …usually DD is too compressed for me. I think there’s a big difference between DD & DTS, especially in the low end.
That being said, I’d love to see many DTS 5.1 releases get a lossless release though:
The Wings - Band on the Run is the first one that popped in my head.


While I’m dreaming, …I also hope one day Apple Music will stream lossless TrueHD Atmos instead of those 768kbps DD+ tracks!!

You're right, PCM Stereo & 5.1 Dolby Digital, but its not bad for an old recording.

One of the best-sounding DD releases ever, IMO. Plus, it's in Dolby Audio on Apple Music--last time I checked, anyway.

They both sound great. It's an amazing 5.1 mix - the EQ, dynamics, spatial positioning, etc are spot-on. A conversion to DD won't change any of that.

I have to second Supertramp - Breakfast in America and The Breeders - Last Splash. And flipping NICE reference to How to Destory Angels (and especially their track on that EP "Fur Lined"). That's the former singer from West Indian Girl who married Trent Reznor. Which makes me add to my list for this thread:

For me, hearing Zeppelin in multichannel would be like summoning the Hammer of the Gods! Especially if Jimmy Page did it with someone like Steven Wilson. Imagine the bouncing riff at the end of What Is and What Should Never Be coming in from many aural vantage points!
