I really would love a 5.1 mix of Head Like a Hole though, and the rest of Pretty Hate Machine!
lol

tis ironic, that Trent, one of the more traditionally trained musicians of the MTV era doesn't seem to care, at all, about surround.

I just think there are 2 kinds of people in this world, stereo and surround.

now I'm down in it

haha, great quote!

Although I'd disagree about Trent, he seems to be one of the very few musicians that actually enjoys surround AND knows how to mix it too. He did the excellent surround mixes (alongside James Brown, not THE James Brown obviously) himself of The Downward Spiral and With Teeth and confirmed in 2012 that Alan Moulder had finished mixing The Fragile into surround, now we just play the frustrating waiting game while he hems and haws about what else to include in the stupor deluxe package that might arrive in 2025. He's such a procrastinator, remember the Tension 2013 Blu-ray was announced for a "Spring 2014" release. He also released a surround Blu-ray of the score he and Atticus did for The Social Network. So that's four albums, three of which are released.

Just give me The Fragile 5.1 in FLAC download and I'll pay bloody $29.99 for it already!!

I just don't know if that was Trent's decision or the labels?? Yes, he signed off on it, awesome, but did he initiate it?

That seems to be the tipping point of most of these artists?

What I'm saying, it strikes me odd that ALL musician's don't want surround?? That would be my top priority as a musician, to faithfully reproduce my music? Who ever said STEREO was faithful?

The Social Network was released independently, so yeah you'd have to surmise given he did the mixes that he enjoys it. I was disappointed he didn't do one for Hesitation Marks, that would be great in surround.

For me Trent's poorest moves have been the absurd levels of dynamic range compresison on the 2017/2018 remasters and the contention that the "correct" or "best" way to listen to NIN is on vinyl with headphones on. He's stated for the record that the high resolution downloads made available for the remasters ARE the cutting files for the vinyl releases, so you're really trying to persuade me that that the correct way to listen to NIN is using heavily slammed digital stereo masters cut to vinyl played back via headphones which removes the physiological effect sound pressure has (and in particular the lowest notes that my 15" servo Paradigm subs love to articulate from the 5.1 mixes)?

Come on Trent, pull the other one!

And yes it used to strike me as odd too, but the more musicians I actually have access to the more I realize music is what they're good at, not the nuances of music playback. Producers probably should be more inclined to understand that.

If everyone understood dynamic range compression like Neil Young / Tom Petty and were like Steven Wilson / Bruce Soord in terms of love of surround, music would be much more enjoyable overall.

I love my Downward Spiral SACD in 5.1. I too would love Pretty Hate Machine in 5.1 as well.

Wow.....ordered the deluxe box set of Appetite on July 7th and it was delivered lickety~split today ..... must've cost them a pretty penny for the outer box [no dings, etc] and the p/h [3 day service!]

Now the question arises, will ES be tasked to remix Use your Illusion I & 2?41622

Did the multis survive the fire?

Gn'R are on the list though!

And then according to some sources, some multis were moved to other locations. Just sayin' Mike ....... Universal will probably NEVER know the extent of loss due to poor record keeping/coding of its intellectual property and the article went on to say that the same shoddy record keeping is likewise extant at other more secure locations ...... miles and miles of unlabeled multis!

Because of the pending lawsuit against Universal, I'm sure no one is willing to talk about the details as hundreds of artists are part of the litigation.

There's that, and then also potential digital back-ups. We'll probably never know what was backed-up, how well, with what DAC, at what bit-rate, etc.
All we can do is wait and see what gets released in MC from here on out...

My impression is that the album masters were largely in the warehouse, the multitracks had largely been moved. Of course, recreating an album from multis is a serious undertaking.

But ubertrout, aren't all surround mixes made from MULTIS? As Mike [baggy] pointed out, no one knows what was digitally backed up, as well. And UMG is now trying to sell off another half of its vast music empire so in essence, what's going to become of all those multis, masters, etc. in the upcoming proposed 'SHUFFLE' [for wont of a better word]! Pandemonium?

Pretty sure they're already there.

Received my 39 dollar box today and am very happy with the Blu-ray, sounds great to me and the animations are a nice touch.

It’s not really a big deal but the stamping/embossing on the front cover and front of the book seem like they should be pressed a little better/more distinctly. Could be just me being picky too.

Was wondering if maybe these price reductions have anything to do with the quality?

Anyone else notice this on their new ‘discount’ purchases?

Not really looks good to Snood - if you are saying that this might be a lightly front cover pressed batch......nah it is the same as the one Snood got when released

Was pleased with it at my original 80 -90 dollar price and at less than 40 it is a steal!!!!

Be Happppppppppppy u got an awesome box set at an awessssssssssssome price and the surround is pretty good toooooooooo :rocks
