I was reading the Inception review on blu-ray.com and saw that it will have 10 tracks from the score in lossless 5.1 as a special feature. The unusual (and awesome) thing about it is that Warner has chosen to include it on the second disc as it's own feature rather than as an isolated score.

The reviewer didn't comment on how it was mixed or how it sounded, but seemed to like the feature other than the lack of visual accompaniment.

I'll try to post my thoughts when I have a copy of the disc.

By the way, does anyone else know of any non-music blu-rays or HD DVDs with lossless isolated scores? I can only think of The Corpse Bride, and then only the HD DVD. Anyone else?

I picked this up yesterday at BB - special edition 2 disc version - disc 2 contains the aforementioned 5.1 mix. Let me be the first to say that this is a SPECTACULAR 5.1 DTS HD-MA surround mix. Hans Zimmer's score is not an easy listen. The opening track is very Holst Planets "Mars" like. Your sub will get a workout with a mix that is very discrete and enveloping. It's about 40 minutes of music from the movie - which I have yet to see but look forward to this weekend. No images - just a brief title intro before each track. It served quite well as a soundtrack to my current reading, "The Fall" - the second book in a trilogy by Pan's Labyrinth director Guillermo Del Toro about viral vampires overtaking Manhattan. Would love to see more of these isolated 5.1 soundtracks on future BD discs. This is certainly demo quality, but not for everyday listening.

Having been suckered into buying the Sherlock Holmes soundtrack by Hans Zimmer, which promised a special 5.1 download and turned out to be nothing more than a DPLll encoded MP3 file, I was a bit skeptical about this. Complete redemption and more!! A fabulous treat that I highly recommend.

I started a thread a while back about isolated music scores. Check Batman, the original movie. There are also others. Can't confirm the quality though. Still no BD player.

I'm enjoying the 5.1 a lot this weekend. While I'm not quite as stoked on the mix as Elmer is (not as aggressive as I'd like with these tunes), this is good stuff. Given that apparently something similar (not sure if Blu-Ray or DVD) will accompany the next Harry Potter release, we may have stumbled into a new, generally positive trend.

The HD DVD of The Getaway has an audio only bonus of the alternate Jerry Fielding score but I don't know if its mixed in 5.1 or not.

I bought this blu-ray and agree with prior posts that the sub gets some serious action on this one and is quite worth a listen. I had a brief session and was impressed with the dynamics and fidelity. The mixes overall are a bit front-centric but have moments of good envelopment. Not worth firing up the video element though ( as i expected anyway ). Ps. L. A. Confidential has a music only track, but this is not seperated by tracks, it is watching the movie with just the visuals and music- which is hardly a practical feature.

Hello. I ordered this yesterday at Amazon. $17.99. Add that the score was Steven Wilson's #2 "Best Of 2010." Looking forward to the listen. Thnaks.

The HD DVD of Superman The Movie is described as having the inclusion of John Williams' music score, isolated as a Dolby Digital-Plus 5.1 surround track. Don't have this so i can't test it but I imagine it is linked to the video, just without any dialog or other sound effects.

There are three versions of this movie that were originally released.
Make sure you get one of the two discs sets or you will miss the separate soundtrack.

Thanks everyone for the isolaetd score recommendations. I've only had a chance to listen to some snippets of Inception here and there, but wow... what a subwoofer workout. Cool stuff!

Phil - Thanks especially for the tip on Batman: The Movie. I missed that one!

Finally, after the dozens of Blu-ray releases including a DVD of the movie and/or a digital copy of the movie I own, they get it right. I have never played a single one of those DVDs or digital copies but a DTS-HD MA 5.1 mix of the score is real added value. I had hoped we would see a lot of this type of release and that the DVDs and digital copies would stop, save the cost.

I finally got around to playing this surround disc and it is excellent, the best surround purchase of the year so far for me. It obviously isn't a mainstream release and I am mostly a classic rock guy but I was able to get into it. Whatever we can do to encourage the studios to do this more often, we need to do it. Now the movie is another matter, despite being one of the most highly praised movies of 2010, first viewing didn't excite me that much. Maybe if I watch again after familiarity with the score, it will fare better. My two little Yorkshire terriers are here listening with me now and pop their heads up every so often to see what is going on, looking in several directions.

Is this the Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy version or is this a 2 Blu-ray Disc Set???

It's the 2 Blu-ray disc set. The isolated DTS HD MA audio score is on disc two - along with the usual assortment of extra features - all pretty entertaining unto themselves - the movie is also quite good - a bit of a mind twister with some excellent effects that serve the storyline very well. The isolated audio portion is about 40 minutes - it is not the entire score but it stands up well on it's own - very impressionistic.

I have the BluRay+DVD+Digital Copy version, and can confirm it has 2BD, 1DVD & a download link with activation code for the digital copy.

Thank you Neil! That is what Amazon sent me and I was afraid to open it, thinking I received the wrong version. I tried to buy this title last week at the local Best Buy. The sales person told me he bought the version I was looking at and it only had one Blu-ray disc inside. So I ordered from Amazon and the disc I received looked identical to the disc at Best Buy. There are no indications on the outside that there are two BD's included. On your advice I opened it, and it indeed does have 2 Blu-ray discs inside in addition to a DVD just as you said.

I purchased mine at Best Buy and the Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy set is what you want, there is no set like that that doesn't have the desired soundtrack although there is a basic Blu-ray carried at Best Buy that doesn't have the soundtrack but I suspect you had the right set when you attempted to check out and the sales person was mistaken. I am still waiting for more releases like this, what a great value and I don't care about the stupid DVD or DC but the soundtrack is an excellent extra. I wish I liked the movie better, I haven't seen many 2010 films yet but this one isn't one of my 2010 favorites after the first viewing. I like "The Social Network" and "Secretariat" better and have "Toy Story 3" but haven't watched it yet.
