Yep, look at how long it took for the Genesis SACDs to come out. I am still waiting for some of the individual discs from the first box, ordered them 6 weeks ago, something about the PAL discs being delayed. the fact that the US release is just DTS and not SACD is a total joke.

Paranoid has been delayed by years I guess, and Wish You Were Here?

Yes, I wish you were here!

I'm gonna buy them all if they are in high rez. Most definitly. Can't wait.

...But i'm not really holding my breath either. I'll believe it when I see it released ;) You can't take anything for granted when it comes to music being released in surround.. but I Wish They Were Here (already) ;)

Since the The Nick Cave catalog has been officially announced, they are surely coming. And i'll buy all of them also if they're in high rez. I REALLY REALLY hope they are.

I think that since Robert Fripp has expressed his happiness with the surround mixes done so far and is his own record company and that there is a "dvd-audio" section (currently empty) at his DGM webshop it is pretty certain that these are coming.

As for the Nick Cave ones, well...Mick Harvey quit the Bad Seeds this week and in his statement he did say that one of his projects this year was to oversee the remasters/reissues of the back catalogue (so it appears his departure must be a fairly amicable one then!).

Sound & Vision (Jan/Feb 2009) has already confirmed the Crimson re-issue campaign for the 40th anniversary, starting with Red and Lizard in March leading up to Court in Oct 2009....

We'll have to extra careful playing when LTIA pt 1 brutally kicks in! Still the loudest moment I can think of, probably one of the most demanding dynamic range examples on record.

I was listening to this just the other day, and you are absolutely right! Wonderfully subtle percussion from Muir combined with Cross' delicate violin in the beginning, and then the onslaught of the full group with two drumkits and the thundering bass of Wetton. Wow... I have a DVD from German TV with the full band playing this tune. Great to see Jamie Muir live!

This album is for me a bit overshadowed by The Court, Red, and Discipline, and I forget what a great album it is.

Your kidding, right?

:)

Lark's Tongues is my absolute favorite. You want overshadowed? I was listening to Islands last night, the japanese paper sleeve version and was totally awed!! Perhaps one filler tune but I forgot how great of an album Islands is.

I am psyched about Lark's Tongues, Starless, Lizard and now Islands though I must say that the CD sounded pretty darn good.

My favorite King Crimson album is USA or maybe it was called USA Live I don't remember

The whole album is excellent but Larks' Tongues in Aspic Part II and Asbury Park really stand out.

My favorite song is "Red", it was Bruford's synchopated "trash" cymbal work that made it really interesting as did the 13/8 time signature and whole tone scale

;-)

Does anyone know what the game plan is as far as where these can be bought from.
Will they only be sold through DGM website or will these be sold at normal places, not sure what normal places is these days as all cd stores are closing but wondering if you can order from amazon, hmv, cduniverse, etc.

Neil will probably know the details and tell us when HE knows.

Drummer Bill Bruford Retires from Public Performance
http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/news.php?id=28957

Posted: 2009-01-26

Bill Bruford After 41 years spent first in the art rock arena with everyone from Yes and King Crimson to Genesis, in addition to his own inestimable forays into fusion with his critically and popularly praised '70s group Bruford, then turning to things more jazzy from the '80 onwards with various incarnations of his much- heralded Earthworks group and his equally acclaimed improvising duet with pianist Michiel Borstlap, veteran drummer Bill Bruford has announced he's hanging up his sticks and and retiring from public performance, effective January 1, 2009.

As Bruford told AAJ's Managing Editor John Kelman, “41 years of me is quite enough for anybody, and especially me!" though he thankfully clarified that he's not retiring from recording. “I will, of course, continue to run Summerfold and Winterfold Records [Bruford's two record labels], plus I have a new album coming out in the summer with British composer Colin Riley."

Two compilations CDs - one each from his Winterfold (a single- disc) and Summerfold (a double-disc) catalogues - are now available in Europe. For North Americans, they are available now at the US online shop at billbruford.com and in stores February 24, 2009.

Bruford also has a book coming out in March, Bill Bruford: The Autobiography, already available for pre-sale at many online outlets. Bruford explains, “I don't feel I need further justifications or explanations with respect to my retirement from the road, but for those of an inquisitive nature, the book will explain my decision in greater depth."

Bruford also told AAJ, “I will also still write and talk on The Pleasures and Perils of Playing Percussion in Public (!). My US agent, Laurel Wicks at Ted Kurland Associates, is already soliciting book- reading/guest speaker engagements at North American colleges for after the book release as we speak."

And so, while Bruford's retirement from the live scene is a sad occasion for his legion of fans, the still healthy drummer will continue to remain an active force for many years to come.

It was indeed USA and I still play that album with some frequency. The standout for me is THIS version of 'Exiles'. I cannot find another version that so distinctly captures the wistful nature of this song. Wetton is in fine voice with especially supportive bass throughout. But what makes this incredibly special to me is the bass "solo" toward's the 3/4 mark where it cuts loose, goosing and nursing the tune harmonically to calm down at the precise moment Fripp turns in his finest *wistful* note choices for this song I've ever heard! (I have the Deceiver box and still collecting this era; no other Exiles as good as this one so far)

Then the building roar of the closing note in a perfect mix of overdriven bass, perfect feedback and mellotron with drums, violin and guitar, riding it out like an ocean wave...

I had the priviledge of witnessing the band in Los Angeles; June 19, 1974.

By now the story of the discarded cymbal that Bruford fished out of the trash and put into rock history with One More Red Nightmare is widely known. What a great record and a high note to (sadly) go out on. Was happy when USA showed up. :)

All these albums will be re-discovered this year. I forget how good Islands is too. These is a rumor of a live album in 5.1 sometime, hope it's USA. I'm sure we can rule out Earthbound!

No live Bruford? Hard to fathom. Saw him 4 times with Crimson (74,81,82,& 84), once with UK (78).

A gentleman, genius, joy to watch and hear. Keep recording!!

Very amusing to see that Mr. Wilson is using Logic Pro to mix into 5.1...cool...
I don't get his speaker placement, though, the Rf is way over to the side!!!..
and Genelecs are great, but these monitors are too small for correct mixing, I'd use bigger ones (OK, so I'm not mixing these...but that's my take)

Judging by Steven's mixing and EQ choices, I'd say he's doing just fine thanks!

Care to add anything constructive?

I said that was my take on it..did you miss it?
I'm not critizicing his mixes, just his weird placement and choice of Genelec size.

------

Anybody else knows if Mr. Wilson knows anything we don't?
I do find it curiouser and curiouser...
The placement is very interesting...

No I did not "miss it".

The proof lies in the pudding. The outcome of his work sounds good, regardless of where he places his Genelec.

I saw him with his own band in '78 or '79 and '80 at the roxy in hollywood. Allan Holdsworth played in the first tour and then guitarist John Clark. Bruford was fantastic and played the roto-tom set. I saw him with UK in '78 as well. My cousin work on the shows for the west coast - UK opened for Al Di Meola I think.

I saw KC at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles in 81 and 82. Couldn't make the 84 show. Saw him with AWBH in the early 90's sometime with the big Simmons set. Tony Levin got sick and Jeff Berlin played. I also saw him on the Yes Union tour as well as more recently with Earthworks and Patrick Moraz.

I wonder if he's taken up a new hobby like fly fishing :)

All the Best

We overlapped on some of these shows! I used to live in San Diego...

I forgot about the Roxy gig in 1979 with the "unknown John Clark" (who was much better live), we attended the late show. We saw UK (primary motive) open for DiMeola at the Santa Monica Civic in 1978. UK was wonderful but DiMeola's band stunned us to the point we though about giving up out instruments for a day or two!

KC was seen in 1981 at UCSD LaJolla, 1982 at the Greek, SD State in 1984. Probably passed right by you somewhere in '82....
