SMA presents, a KGLW Official Bootlegger project:

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Live at Red Rocks '24 (Night 1)
Full concert film with Dolby Atmos and 5.1 mixes

red_rocks_poster.jpg

I'm excited to share this project I have been working on. @PurpleMoustache asked if I could have a go at mixing a King Gizzard live show using the live audio stems they have been releasing for free for the last few years. I was amazed to discover that they were making them available to fans and bootleggers for any use, even commercial. There were a lot of shows to choose from so @PurpleMoustache narrowed it down to this one.

With the generous permission of Jackson Devereux of Heaps Keen films, I can share my mixes with the full concert film as a free download. King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and Heaps Keen films are the owners of the original audio and video and this is being shared for non-commercial use only.

Available in this Google Drive folder are:
  • Authored Blu-ray ISO v1.0 (24GB) with HD concert film, TrueHD Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD 5.1 mixes and original Stereo soundboard mix.
  • 4K x265 MKV v1.0 (35GB) (TrueHD Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD 5.1 + FLAC Stereo)
  • HD x264 MKV v1.0 (22GB) (TrueHD Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD 5.1 + FLAC Stereo)
  • MKA Dolby Atmos TrueHD v1.0 (4.3GB)
  • FLAC 5.1 v1.0 (1.8GB)
Setlist:
1. Intro
2. Daily Blues
3. The Bitter Boogie
4. Muddy Water
5. The Bitter Boogie
6. Hog Calling Contest
7. Elbow
8. The River
9. Le Risque
10. Gila Monster
11. Dragon
12. Planet B
13. Stressin'
14. Gondii
15. Chang'e
16. Extinction
17. Am I In Heaven?

Enjoy!

Wow! This is an amazing offering from @LTW !! I saw King Gizzard for the first time this summer and it was one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. Can't wait to download this when I get home tonight.

Any chance you might do other shows from the tour? Portland, Maine perhaps? That was the show I was at, and the opening 40-minute synth table segment would be perfectly suited for a surround mix...

I had the honor of sampling the mix before the release and it’s a good one folks! Many thanks to @LTW for helping make a dream of having an Atmos mix of a show I actually saw!
Thanks mate! This was a fun project (although trying to get it all to fit on a single-layer BD was a pain in the ass 😅) and I'm stoked you brought it to my attention.

I might consider mixing ONE more show, but will probably do audio only. I’d like to find a consensus on what their best show of this tour was, or the one next most worthy of an Atmos mix. Any ideas?

People really love the all synth table (the synth table was given a name in the second leg of the tour, his name is Nathan) show from San Francisco, that would be the one I recommend next, but I’ll let other people give their input as well

This is awesome! Thanks for this! However, I'm getting "download quota exceeded" for the 4k file. Any chance this can be remedied?

I’m not sure, as KGLW fans often seem to say that every show is the best one (haha), but Portland DID start with a 40 minute synth table medley and end with a 20 minute Dripping Tap that involved Stu crowd surfing his way through the crowd and then diving into a muddy river next to the venue, so there’s a lot to be said for that. But I’m biased because I was there…

Oh cool - I didn’t realize they did an all synth table show! Will need to check that out.

We don’t allow Bootlegs here. The reasons are obvious. Especially if we’re going to get anything from the vaults with the tapes rotting away. Of course this is unfair, to a certain degree, but the major labels will not release anything unless there’s a market. Because it costs money, hell, the major labels can’t/won’t even back up the original Quad tapes. Then what happens? Fire or neglect results in a loss forever of what could have been. Just as 80% or more of silent films have been lost forever, but could have been saved had anyone cared.

This does appear to be an official thing that the band encourages. If so, it’s a great way to get exposure. I would encourage more bands who own their own music to do this. So, for now, it’s in the Multichannel Musicians section. Thanks.

I would not call this a bootleg. As you mention, the band released all the multitracks/stems for this tour, encouraging fans and labels to put out their own releases, both for streaming and physical media. They have done this before for their albums, so I don't think there are any issues with this being offered for download here.

Great. More Bands should do this.

The band officially sanctions these releases. The term “bootleg” in this context refers to the “bootlegger” program in which full shows, demos, and occasional albums are offered up for free, with CD and Vinyl masters usually provided by the band.

The band adopts a slightly tweaked version of the Grateful Dead tape trading philosophy in that as long as it’s done for free, do whatever you want, but once a product that you sell for money is made (cds, vinyl, tapes, etc) the band should be sent some to sell themselves. As bandleader Stu drunkenly said in the Detroit acoustic show this year: “the streams [they live broadcasted each show on youtube] and the soundboards are free because Gizz is free for the people”.

Since no money is being asked for here, by all accounts it should be allowed to stay, per the band’s rules at least.

Looks great but I'm getting 'Download Quota Exceeded' error as well.........
I was able to download the FLAC 5.1 files but I did get that message originally as well. Right-clicking on the file and then selecting “download” eventually worked. I have not tried the larger video files yet as I’m waiting for the sync issues to be resolved.
