He was a real one for this:

As the hostile crowd threatened to drown out O’Connor’s performance that night, the concert’s organizers had asked Kristofferson to escort her off the stage. He refused, and instead went out and told her, “Don’t let the bastards get you down.” To which, he said, she responded: “I’m not down.”

In her 2021 memoir, “Rememberings,” O’Connor had a slightly less rosy telling of events. She wrote that when she saw Kristofferson approaching her, she thought: I don’t need a man to rescue me, thanks. As they went offstage, she added, she almost threw up on him.

“It just seemed to me wrong, booing that little girl out there,” Kristofferson added all those years later. “She’s always had courage.”

Or, as he sang in “Sister Sinead”:

And maybe she’s crazy and maybe she ain’t
But so was Picasso and so were the saints
And she’s never been partial to shackles or chains
She’s too old for breaking and too young to tame

R.I.P. Kris. Admired you as both a singer/songwriter and as an actor

Phenomenal sounding compilation of some of Kristofferson's best work.

Mike Dutton said to me at some point (and I came to agree after hearing a number of these D-V releases) that country music comes out really well in quad - it seems a little counter-intuitive at times because a lot of this music is quite sparse in instrumentation, but the beauty of putting the listener in the middle of the band is that it just serves to increase the intimacy of these already very personal songs.

I had the same listening experience to be in the middle of the recording room when I heard David Crosby's - If I Could Only Remember My Name. Beautiful record too.

I was blown away how good he looked and how badass he was in Blade II, which came out in 2002. I knew he wasn’t a youngster then, but didn’t realize he was already 66. RIP Kris!!!
