I rated Sundown an 8. The quad mix is excellent from me. Its just not a disc I will listen to over and over. If I could rate it 8.5 I would. The quad mix here is excellent, but I'm not in love with all of the material.

Sundown may be the best of Gord's eight Reprise records. Cold on the Shoulder and If You Could Read My Mind get high votes from a lot of Lightfoot fans, but I'm partial to this one. Thanks to the talents of producer Lenny Waronker and engineer Lee Herschberg, along with sumptuous string arrangements from Nick DeCaro, the production and sound are pristine.

Quad elevates the album to another level. It's pleasantly discrete while bringing the instruments into clearer definition -- horns, strings, steel string guitar, and of course Lightfoot's sonorous voice all benefit greatly from the surround mix.

Well, nothing in this world is perfect, but Sundown deserves a 10 nevertheless.

An 8.5 for an album you don’t even like is a more remarkable score than the boat load of 10s from those of us who have always loved it. Just goes to show how excellent the sound quality and mix actually is.

(P.S. You might want to join us on the QQ NFL Tailgate thread since you are a Niners fan.)

Yeah, Gordon made a ton of great music that’s not on this album, but that doesn’t detract from it one bit. Without a doubt, it’s my favorite quadio so far.

Sorry I had to work during the game yesterday. Casinos never close. The 8.5 was more for the excellent sound quality, not the mix.

I got a really strange problem with this disc.. it will not play on my magnetar 800 says unknown disc and my Oppo 203 plays it in dolby vision and all my connectors work.. other then that this is really good 10. Hope Rhino can get me a new disc that works. Disc had some gook on it wiped it off it was mint other then circle on inner circle didn't align.

There are times (usually when I’m having guests over) when my Oppo 105 reduses to play 1080 video from blu-rays. It works on DVDs, it works on 1080 stream, it works on USB sources, its own menus work, but the HDMI shuts off when I put in a blu-ray.

I fix it by pulling the plug overnight.

Could be the Blu-ray laser is failing or lens just needs to be cleaned.

I've never had that exact problem. Maybe a loose or bad HDMI cable?
No, it’s definitely CPU related. I’ve been in touch with Oppo service, and they seem to feel there’s something in my NAS that’s executing in the deck. Of course, EVERYTHING is on my NAS, since it’s the destination of my automatic backups, so trying to figure it out is a royal pain.

I’ve had it happen once after I had a corrupted thumb drive attached to it, after a couple of 3D movie plays (the 2D extras wouldn’t play, but the 3D movie and menus were fime), and then just randomly. So I just play something other than a blu-ray that evening, and when I’m done, I just pull the plug overnight. So far that works every time.
