That's rather weird... anyway, this time I made sure to flip through all the songs and check if my Denon "sees" the Atmos codec...only showing up as Lossless Stereo here in Blighty..

i'm up for that! anything that saves having to reach for the shelvesBetween Gotan Project and the recent Jarre release, I wonder if there’s a push somewhere (Apple, or Dolby, who knows) to put out existing 5.1’s in an Atmos wrapper

It’s a good incentive to get older albums heard more, especially if it’s featured on the Spatial Audio page.Between Gotan Project and the recent Jarre release, I wonder if there’s a push somewhere (Apple, or Dolby, who knows) to put out existing 5.1’s in an Atmos wrapper
i agree! It’s a good incentive to get older albums heard more, especially if it’s featured on the Spatial Audio page.
I think it's hard to say that the Atmos of Dark Side Of The Moon barely uses the heights, it's quite prominent on some tracks like On the Run. I have LED meters that shows the activity in the heights and SB speakers and there's height output to a varying degree in all tracks. At least a lot more than in the quad.i agree!
..and besides it's not like using the Height channels matters much since the Atmos of Dark Side Of The Moon barely uses them and everybody seemingly loves it!
(tongue firmly planted in cheek of course )
just saying "well Quad doesn't have any Height channels! so there!" is frankly a rather childish stick to beat Quad with and such a non-argument, honestly i'm kinda disappointed at such a base level of discussion, i'd have thought we were beyond that here!?I think it's hard to say that the Atmos of Dark Side Of The Moon barely uses the heights, it's quite prominent on some tracks like On the Run. I'll give you peace, I blame it on beer and booze, and I'll admit that the Alan Parsons quad mix is quite good.just saying "well Quad doesn't have any Height channels! so there!" is frankly a rather childish stick to beat Quad with and such a non-argument, honestly i'm kinda disappointed at such a base level of discussion, i'd have thought we were beyond that here!?
this is QuadraphonicQuad after all and without Quad there'd be no Atmos.
the format, the channel configuration, isn't the issue here, it's how the channels are used. i expect an Atmos mix to be more intricate and sophisticated than an old Quad by virtue of all the extra channels and so Surround sound opportunities available to the modern day mixer.
ultimately, i'm not budging on this, the Heights on the Atmos of DSOTM are barely used and when they are it's for sound effects, the spoken word soundbites and some synth parts.
to me that's woefully lacking and ordinarily many here would berate an Atmos mix for doing so.. but it's "Dark Side Of The (Bloody!) Moon" so it get's a free pass somehow!
ahh.. never mind, let's move on and stay cordial there's only so many hours in the day and i need more coffee before i have to fight to the death to defend the stunning legacy of Quad!
They must be joking me! With all the great Metheny albums out there (thinking with Mays and percussionists etc.) they go with a solo guitar performancePat Metheny's forthcoming album will be available in Atmos. It's a guitar-only album so not expecting too much from the mix.
Not on Tidal yet. :-(Full album now
