LOL! ATmos capable phone? Didn't know there was such a thing. I hvae an iphone, but it's 5 years old. Also, another side comment. I put those albums that Jonathan mentioned into my library. When I played the Blue Oyster Cult, it didn't play in atmos, my AVR switched over to 5.1, but it only played out of my left front speaker. LMAO! Must be some setting, not sure about all that.

do you know which model iPhone it is? afaik iPhone 11 (Pro/Pro Max), 12 (Mini/Pro/Pro Max), the XR, XS and 2nd gen SE all handle Atmos.

the BÖC is an old Quad in Dolby Audio not Atmos and an older Vn of the Apple TV firmware had such a channel assignment bug, you need to update your Apple TV's firmware

Have you had a chance to upgrade the software? That one speaker thing sounds like an issue we were all having on the ATV box a couple of firmwares ago that has since got fixed.

You didn’t get the notice, the new surround formats are being specifically designed to be compatible with headphones, sound bars, as well as iPhones. And it’s no longer a requirement that they even decode discreetly.

And they thought SQ, CD-4, Q8, QS, and QR were confusing to the consumers.

No, didn't do any software upgrades, you'd think it would do that automatically out of the box. Now to figure out how to find a damn menu on this thing. I stumbled upon it earlier, but no clue how......I was just punching some buttons on the remote...haha. ahem

its the thing with a clockwork type gear shape thingy! 😅😂

do you have an Atmos capable iPhone, Gene?

lately i just cruise around Apple Music on my phone for albums i know were in Quad/5.1 and go from there.

as has been said by Dave and others, if you flick back through the threads here at QQ a number of members here have posted Atmos/Quad/5.1 Apple Music links which should get you up and running.
also there are members here who have created Surround playlists which are very neat
I’d love to see more playlists!

I’m confused still. You state that there is not much equipment to process it, do you really mean that there is “no” equipment to process it? Or that there is equipment but it’s a non-discreet decoding process. Why state that there is some, if there is none? Unless there is some, it’s just rare right now.

And there is no need to confirm that original mixes were created discreetly, we all know that and have known it for 40 years. I guess it’s good for those that do not know this.

Why don’t we just admit that this is like listening to an SQ Quad LP without being decoded, when we should be getting 4-channels of discreet playback from these tapes. Am I the only one truly outraged at this?

Your post does sound optimistic about soon to arrive new equipment.
There is this AVP
McIntosh MX123 A/V Processor

And there is this Sony HT system
HT-A9 Home Theater System | Sony US

There may be more, but those are the only ones I know of.

The Supremes - Supremes A Go Go.

Hope this opens the floodgates for more Motown...

Apple Music - The Supremes A' Go-Go by The Supremes
Tidal - https://tidal.com/browse/album/220347499

Immersive mix - Kevin Reeves. It's a good one!

Gotta give another shout-out for this one, been playing it a lot.
I'm stunned to hear this record I got as a kid in 1966 in a killer Atmos mix.
Classic Funk Brothers studio band with orchestral arrangements.
Backing vocal call & response harmonies spread around the rears.

This was the first Motown LP we bought to play on the old Magnavox console.
My little sister and I picked it out because we loved seeing the Supremes on tv.
So talented, glamorous & sassy.
We knew we'd better get caught up with this urban black soul music from our little whitebread world in rural Nebraska.

We lucked out on our pick, as it had a nice sample of the Motown canon by other groups along with the current Supremes radio hits.
We even took note that the Supremes had covered a Beatles song, Money (That's What I Want).
Too young, white & clueless to know that the Fabs were covering the Motown original from '59. Money (That's What I Want) - Wikipedia

Of special note is Track 9, a rare non-Diana Ross lead vocal from Mary Wilson.

I remember also have read somewhere that the discrete RA360 system suports not only 'Height Speakers' but also 'Down Speakers" located front below the normal Stereo Fronts, exactly at the floor.
So that would be even more 360 degrees spherical around our ears, also in vertical directions.
The sweet spot would then be better standing instead of sitting? :ROFLMAO:

Nothing in the wild like that. 12 channel/object max (7.1.4) so far.

I have done some experimenting with up-remixing with down speakers and headphone virtualization. 16 channels with 4 "down" as you say. You can PM me for details.
