Listening to Now (Derived/Fake Surround-Specify Method)

Since the Stereo track on this Atmos/Quadio release is probably the best quality copy that there will ever be made available, I decided to try listening using my Derived Surround Sound systems, so far, just Hafler/DynaQuad (DPL 2 music later).

Track 1 doesn't have much surround sound, all of the other tracks have good surround sound (I prefer listening to the derived surround sound instead of the plain stereo).

I bought this CD today during one of my mini-vacations to a Walmart.

DPL 2 music:
Songs 8 and 11 have good derived surround sound, other songs are OK (song 11 sounds kinda like it was mixed in surround sound).

Hafler/DynaQuad:

Pioneer VSX-D514: TV SURR[OUND] - This mode produces surround sound for both mono and stereo TV sources.

I backed up several of my Betamax HiFi Video 45s to DVD-Rs [no HiFi, just the linear mono soundtrack]

This TV SURROUND mode does spread the mono sound around on my 4.1 system, it doesn't seem to adversely affect sound quality (no bass boost/cut or treble boost/cut).

The 7th Heaven record store in KC is closing soon, I went over there today, I asked if they had Quad records in a separate section, they said no.

I noticed a few new prerecorded compact cassettes, I bought this album on cassette (may leave it sealed):



Listened using DPL 2 music, moderate surround effect, songs 4,7 are pretty good though.
