Nightfly in either format is equal..easier and cheaper to find the SACD version..in case you don't have it already Moondance is excellent HERE
I don't have Moondance yet. Kind of been preoccupied with other things. You know how it is.@: But, thanks for the reminder! Now I've definitely got my eye on it... And hopefully it will soon be in my player.

Snood would say if you can get SAY YOU WILL by FM for reaaaaaaaaaaal cheap as often it is................The Lindsey Buckingham tracks are still real good.

You can often find it in VG condition on ebay for under 20 bux -amazon has a couple under 20 in VG but it is Amazon

"Come" by Lindsey on that album is great along with his other stuff............meh on the Stevie stuff

Ok, there you go...twisting my arm...pulling on my heart strings. LOL! :kitty:

Buckingham is real good!? Now I've got to get it a whirl. A bit disappointed to hear Stevie's contribution isn't up to scratch. I still find Gold Dust Woman to be one of the most hauntingly beautiful tracks. Have her magic powers gone...

Tears For Fears - SFTBC DVD-A Just keeps getting better and better on each listen

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - Damn The Torpedoes - Blu Ray

Oh man.....

Stevie is still a powerhouse performer IMO. But, OK - Lindsay is an over the top performer who gives 110% on each song. Put him and her together and it is magic....always was...always will be.

Symphony X: Paradise Lost. This one would be great if it were 24 bit. DD sucks.

........Flaming Lips....again. I just cannot get enough of this wild, in your face mix. So fun......it's like a damn workout...gymnastics. Wife is gone....so I'm having my way with my Klipsch....

haha now I'm listening to Mike Oldfield...Tubular Bells. Odd....I find myself liking this mix better than last time I listened. Makes me wonder if I'm too critical...

Oh woman!

Just listening to Rumors DVDA. What an album!

And..."Still a powerhouse!?" You don't know how happy I am to hear Stevie isn't just second hand news!! :bounce

Btw, there was a discussion over at SACD.net about the DVDA and SACD versions of Rumors sounding different. Some people felt the SACD really botched Stevie's vocals. But...other people felt both version were near identical, except that the DVDA was clearer but a little bright...and the SACD was warmer but not as detailed. Has anyone compared the 2 versions?

Let me mention something to you...I have the DVD-A version of Rumours...but I have noticed that whenever there are DVD-A and SACD versions of the same disc you are usually going to hear how much better the DVD-a version is...in some cases this might be true...but on these forums there are a LOT of people who don't like the SACD technology...and some that just like DVD-A better because they can play the discs in their car and they don't have to have a dedicated machine to play SACD discs...which are usually more expensive than DVD machines...so the key is to find someone that has similar "listening" tastes as you do...the easy way to do that is to look at how people react to the discs you already own...whether you like or hate the disc...the comments from these people will let you know if your opinions are the same on the discs you already own...that's what I do...to just accept blank endorsements on the internet you might end up with situations like this

Let me say that I have FM Say you will and disagree with a lot of the negative comments about the dvd audio. But, I don't believe I am as critical as some on these boards. I don't care if it's sacd, dvd audio or DTS Cd. I listen with my ears and if it sounds good I like it and I recommend it. I'm sure it's not as good as rumors but then again I did not expect it to be.. Grab it and judge for yourself.

Thanks to this forum, I've ended up buying both versions of Rumours, not because of SACD vs DVD-A but because they're slightly different mixes. I can't get too detailed now but a good example is the SACD has the lead vocal significantly quieter in the first song.

Thanks for sharing the video. It makes your point very clear.

I agree it's useful to get to know reviewers' preferences. There are some who prefer DVDA to SACD...and vice versa. It seems many here like the video aspect of DVDA and Bluray. Over on SACD.net, not surprisingly most people prefer SACD. That could be cuz most are into classical music. Some are also DSD fanatics. And most seem to be proudly 2-ch. Sometimes it's hard to get to know each members' preferences. Personally, I really don't care whether it's DVDA, SACD, Bluray... Just as long as it sounds good in Mch...Quad, 5.1...

I have a lot of older classical recordings. I don't have much choice but to listen to them in 2-ch stereo or mono...even on SACD. Few are mixed into 5.1. But the more I listen in Mch the more I WANT Mch!! You all probably understand the addiction all too well.@: So, I am ecstatic that older pop/rock albums are remixed into Quad or 5.1. I was simply blown away by The Beatles - LOVE DVDA.

Holy Cow!! Why can't we get more of that!? :51banana:

I understand your feelings very well. I'll admit that I'm pretty generous when I comes to recordings...especially in Mch. There are a lot of difficulties & headaches, especially with remixing older 2-ch recordings into 5.1.

Heck, I recently picked up Led Zeppelin - Copenhagen Warm Ups DVDA. Even though it's an artificial 5.1 mix of a crappy sounding bootleg, it has become my go to Zep album. I love it!! They were on fire in this concert. And...Achilles Last Stand simply rocks in 5.1. Listening to it as I write.

I can't believe we don't have any... ALL of Zeppelin's studio albums in 5.1!

What a tragedy!! :alienrob::alienrob::alienrob:

This is what a few people were saying over on SACD.net. The vocals, especially Stevie's, were too quiet. I don't remember which tracks, but they had serious issues with it. I understand different recordings sound different on different systems, so this problem can be a bit subjective. Anyway, I went with the DVDA for Rumors. It sounds great to me...especially my favorite song, Gold Dust Woman. I couldn't bare losing her howls at the end. Sends shivers down my spine every time!

If Jimmy Page got involved...and he probably would.... it would be a mess

How true! LOL!!

I was listening to How the West Was Won the other day. Granted it's a live performance and all, but I still feel it could have a better 5.1 mix. The center channel isn't used properly and the rear channels are a bit sloppy as in Whole Lotta Love. Don't get me wrong. It's not particularly bad or anything. And it's great to have that live performance in Mch.

But, it sure would be nice if Jimmy would hook up with someone like Steve Wilson and then give him the leeway that Steve seems to get with Jethro Tull's and King Crimson's recordings. Well... THEN we might have proper Zeppelin in surround. I know...wishful thinking!

That's the problem...there seems to be some bands that have 1 member who "thinks" they know more about this than guys like Steven Wilson or Elliot Scheiner and have control over the music and it suffers because of this....happens way too much...if they would only stick to what they do best...play music...we would have some real quality music....or they have some friend do the production....bands like Rush should have the best guys doing their productions...but that's not the case a lot of the time...real shame...some great music being destroyed...or just sitting there waiting to be rescued...

Many thanks for taking the time for a nice rundown of my list. :D

Yes, I listen to SACDs as well. In fact, most of my Mch collection is on SACD. Though, the past couple of years I've been getting into DVDAs, as they offer many titles not available on SACD. I have both of the recent Steely Dan SHM-SACDs...Countdown to Ecstasy and Pretzel Logic. They sound superb, but alas only 2-ch. I agree that the Mch Gaucho SACD sounds wonderful. Wish they would put together a Mch SACD of Aja (even if not complete). I am looking to pick up the solo albums by Donald that you mentioned. I believe the DVDA and SACD of Nightfly are basically the same, right? I'll probably go with the SACD since it's easier to get and cheaper.

I have been on the fence about the Fleetwood Mac. It'll probably go on the back burner for a while. But... I am definitely interested in the Chicago DVDA. That's a must. Thanks! And I remember listening to lots of Foreigner back in the 70s and 80s...almost too much. ;) These days I might not normally go for this, but I am intrigued about the hearing it in surround. MoFi has recently released several Foreigner albums on SACD. I have their Doobie Bros - Toulouse Street and the Mch SACD of Captain & Me, so I won't worry about the DVDA.

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts on those DVDAs... and I loved the PF - Pompeii video.

I hadn't played that disc for awhile so I am listening to it now and it appears I was too harsh about it...you sound like a diehard FM fan so it might just work for you....and you can usually find it on Ebay....you can always email sellers to get a better price...especially on auction items where no bid has been made...here...just don't tell Snood he was right...hehe...

I think I became a diehard fan when I heard them in Mch.
Actually, I am discovering that I am a diehard fan of a lot of groups...via 5.1. LOL!!! :ugham:

But seriously, I appreciate your honesty (and the link). Don't worry about sounding too harsh. The vibe here is generally nice & positive. And I really don't expect Say You Will to be another Rumors. I was just wondering if there was anything seriously botched up on any of those DVDAs and how listeners here felt about the music.

I enjoy reading everyone's comments very much! :wave

A real shame, indeed!

This "know-it-all" syndrome breaks up a lot of great bands as well. CCR comes to mind. Thank goodness some bands have figured this out. The quality of the 5.1 mixes for YES and Pink Floyd's albums has been spectacular. I just hope we can get some more PF released, at least The Wall, Animals, Meddle and Live at Pompeii. And after listening to The Beatles - LOVE, I would love to have all the early PF albums in 5.1. :sun
