Reel To Reel? and would it have killed 'em to but a forward slash between the 4 channel & stereo -so not to confuse folks?

afaik it was not to indicate Stereo compatibility (not least since on a discrete tape there would be no backward compatibility with Stereo gear) "4-channel stereo" was a name some labels and manufacturers used (Akai was among them iirc) for their Quad hardware and software.

this looks like the "H" suffixed cart so i guess it'd be the less discrete presentation?

(the "H" in a GRT catalogue Q8 surmised to mean "Home" or "HiFi" i can't remember which now and "C" supposedly stood for "Car" i think it was, where the "C" mix had more separation / greater Rear channel emphasis than the "H")

Well doesn't that sound stupid, or is it just me? (well maybe don't answer that )

I had thought the whole "C" = car, "H" = home thing was just a theory? Usually, the difference between "C" and "H" is that the "C" carts have a swapped channel (all of mine have left front and left rear reversed), but the mix is the same. However, The Grass Roots' 16 Greatest Hits "C" and "H" carts actually have two entirely different quad mixes

oh ok..! 😱 so its a bit like saying stuff like Jean-Luc Ponty's Cosmic Messenger and Alphonse Mouzon's Mind Transplant were cancelled DVD-A's.. proof is needed otherwise its all just a lovely idea that i sooooo wish were the case! 🤷‍♀️
