SFA's "Phantom Power" also on DVD-V in 5.1, if you don't have it already Duncan?
just as good as Rings Around The World & Love Kraft in Surround imho :)

I was a little underwhelmed with the surround mix on Phantom Power at first, but I have a feeling that it may be one of those 5.1 mixes where the surrounds were turned down in the mastering phase. Some of the things that move from front to rear seem to get quieter at they move to the rears, which is what gave me the thought that maybe that was the case. In any event, the last time I listened to it I cranked the rears by +3dB and the surround mix was a lot more immersive.

I think I might tear it apart in my DAW one of these days and see what's really going on because of how much more satisfying it was with the rears turned up. Report to follow...at some point. ;)

I'm glad you have posted  I've this on CD but didn't know a 5.1 mix of it was available, so I just ordered the DVD, thanks! I've the "Love Kraft" SACD.

I've got "Love Kraft" SACD too, s'good, another DVD you could have a look at is Phantom Power, the so called animations are rubbish, but the musics good, both this and Rings Around the World DVD I find very awkward to navigate the menus, it's very hit or miss to find a particular song you where listening to yesterday, "now where is it hidden? this menu? no, this one? no thats not it, where the hell is it?" very frustrating. anyway good luck.

Edit: Whoa fredblue beat me too it there, ha so thats two of us recommending it.

Oh well as I'm being ganged up on I just better get it then @: Actually not bad delivered for under a £5!

hmm.. v.interesting Dave, v.interesting.. last time I played these I would've more than likely had Audyssey Dyn EQ engaged on my old Denon 1909 in my old pad (loud rears ahoy!).. think I need to try some of this stuff out again with current setup (Audyssey = OFF for MCh Music!!).. Duncan, please ignore my Phantom recommendation for now, it could be duff!

edit: uh oh, too late! :p oh well its a fiver after all ;)

An unabashedly hopeless romantic, eh, Brett? That Young and Restless theme is certainly beautiful and I agree that the two Floyd Cramer SACDs are lovely and the strings sound oh so heart wrenching on my system.

As I type these words, we're experiencing the Blizzard of '17 [actually, a Nor'easter blanketing the East Coast] so a great day to catch up on ALL things surround and otherwise.........

WoW! I hope the power stays on for your blizzard of surround festival. :sun It's amazing how often bad weather still plays havoc with the electricity in my hometown. Trees and power lines just don't get along very well.@: @:

Yes, I've been very happily in love with these Dutton Quad SACDs, Ralph. The strings sound gorgeous. I don't get much of this type of Easy-listening music here. It's a pleasure to listen to. Hopelessly romantic....

The most ravishing version of the Young and Restless theme came via an old A&M Album by Perry Botkin, Jr. entitled "Ports." The Vinyl was plagued by a poor pressing so I sprung for the cassette which turned out to be wobbly and dragged on my Nakamichi cassette player. Unfortunately, it NEVER had an RBCD release.

No power outages, yet [thank you Jesus]. Just watching CNN and so as not to be political.....a REAL **** STORM.

Take care Brett.

Miles Davis - ******* Brew

A friend of mine sent me this a while back and I'm just now checking it out for the first time. It's apparently from a quad reel to DVD-A done by Army of Quad.

It's extremely discrete with a few 'flying around the room' effects here and there. It has surprisingly good separation and fidelity, but there is a bit of hiss that's really only noticeable during quiet parts. Honestly, this is pretty amazing.

Yup...this is one of my all time favorites...music and mix wise...Miles let his sidemen go insane ,but, man, when he joined in , it was all the way to the stratosphere....and the mix is , although early Quad, one of the BEST ever...all the delays from Miles' trumpet pingponging around...YEAHHH!

Grover Washington Jr, Winelight (Audio Fidelity SACD)

I have been eyeing that one for a while and finally got it... arrived today so had to give it a spin after work.

I was expecting a more discrete mix but the sound is gorgeous nonetheless.

Temple of the Dog. BluRay Audio, again.:phones Really love this disc.Love the video for Hunger Strike too.Two of rocks best male vocalists in the same band.:) Cranking it up to 90db,yeah!:smokin
