Nice link.
I think it's academic at this point since new hardware will have to be HDMI 2.2 compliant.
But I welcome all upgrades in HDMI.
HDMI 2.1 fits my needs for the foreseeable future. I don't have nor plan to buy any 8K or > devices, although my AVR supports 8K, though not at the newly announced bitrate.

The ones lagging behind are the pc motherboard and graphics card makers, whose drivers often just suck and introduce dropouts. Handshake with AVR's, etc.
Not enough of an HDMI scholar to say why, just an everyday music listener who mainly uses a pc as playback device.
1's & 0's. Either they show up to destination device or not. Sometimes not.

And hopefully might resolve the existing 'handshake issues' still plaguing current hardware.

Yeah. I don't think the standard in and of itself will. Hardware (and pc drivers) need to make it all right on their own without simply going with how they implement the existing standards.
I think many HDMI boards in modern AVR's over a span of many years have just sucked for reliabilty and switching speed. Yet they charge more and more money for the "next generation".
But, boonie, you say, mine does just fine! Well bless you. I heard that many times with AVR's I've owned from other owners. I guess you either get lucky or don't.

I had one AVR freshly back from having a replacement HDMI board at just under 3 years of operation/warranty. I went out on a limb and recapped the board with more heat tolerant caps, tested a few months with my rig, and gave to my Daughter years ago, and it's never suffered another breakdown.

In the interim I found an offer someone linked at AVSForum to get a replacement upgrade for that model, from the manufacturer, but I did have to pony up $200 for a newer model and got to keep the old one. Can't complain too much since the newer one was Atmos capable and got me into that whole gig. lol.
