Just picked this up on Amazon...

Four !!! Quad albums on 2 CD'S from Bonnie Koloc. Her first four albums were only ever available as Matrix Quad encoded , fwiw.

After All This Time is EV-4 , the remainder are all QS.

All told she had Five Quad Matrix albums with the fifth being a QS Best Of.

I was thinking earlier it’s about time to fire up the Akai and what tapes I hadn’t played lately and this fits. Maybe been 30 years since I’ve heard these. Two out of four ain’t bad.

I actually may never have heard this because I had to reinforce splice before I played it. Pretty good so far. Decent quad.

Nice looking Q8 machine from Akai , me thinks.

Funny that even the Ovation Stereo 8 track tapes were also quad , albeit matrix .

I wish more of the matrix quad labels were as forward thinking as this CD reissue.
Notation on the back of this Black Jazz/Ovation CD tells the quad story........

Pupsi , Please let me know if you happen to luck out finding some , thanks.
Pupsi likes to abide; but I assume you are referring to other than the LPs listed on discogs (and something actually available to purchase?)

Just for GP (and you're probably aware) I believe @Bob Romano is one our resident experts on the BBC TRANSCRIPTION Quad series.

However we are headed off the thread-track of CDs 😬

Okie dokie pupsi me ol'mate , I read you just fine. Always a pleasure when we chat it up quad.

And ...........FWIW there were encoded BBC TRANSCRIPTION CD'S as well.🐶😄

Well I gave this 2 disc set a good listen , and I never heard much in the way of vinyl pops and ticks..(but i also don't have a Dog's hearing!).
Sounded just fine for me . Her 4th album is musically my favourite.

I notice just one reply to the discogs review, and that review and the folks at discogs...absolutely missed the fact that these are quad albums !🙄 Four in fact,..Something I found strange as they usually do not miss this bit of factoid.
Fizzy, many thanks for your super sleuthing. I will definitely add this collection to my future purchase! Maybe that discogs' reviewer had a dog that had ticks!

I have the files for several of those and they are quite fun although not terribly discrete. More crowd in the back with a bit of instrumentation

I ordered the Bonnie Koloc package, too... She's a great singer, BUT... First of all, the quad encoding is intact. That was clear when I played the discs through the Surround Master. Problem is, it is a needle drop, and the surface noise, especially on the first disc, was very evident. Second, it sounded like they transferred the albums on a cheap turntable that had a dusty, badly worn stylus. It doesn't sound like they tried to clean the records, either. If I had known all this before ordering the discs, I wouldn't have done it. Whoever the company is who put this dreck on the market, you should be ashamed. I hope Bonnie hasn't heard these. She would not be happy.

These disc's are old so I didn't expect perfection.

I can live with my choice for this CD , and I wish more like this were in existence.

And the Surround Encode is more of an encompass type , rather than swirls front to rear or cross channels.

HiRez Question ?
Were not the 3 Rick Wakeman quad DVDA discs also from vinyl transfers?

Yes, Fizzy, the 3 Rick Wakeman DVD~As were indeed from SQ and CD~4 Vinyl needle drops...and truth be told they don't sound half bad except for the occasional vinyl 'artifacts!'

I've heard other needle drops that sounded much better than this package. If the nameless company that released this set had used a better playback system, and a good cartridge and stylus, and if the records had been in better condition and CLEAN, I'm sure the results would have been much better. The surround decode from these discs matched those of the individual albums, as played from the vinyl. BTW, I use a Technics 1200mk2, with a Denon DL-110 cartridge. It's an excellent sounding combination.

Good morning everyone. Thanks to this thread, I ordered the Bonnie Koloc 2-CD Anthology. Definitely a needle drop from the original EV-4 (first album) and the original QS albums (2, 3, 4). Surround seemed to be intact using my SM V3. But the usual vinyl flaws were audible, including what sounded like groove wear / distortion on the first album. I like 1 in 3 of the songs so it’s time to clean up a select few in Audacity for clicks and pops. All in, a good addition of four old albums to my 300+ quad collection, but not Quadio quality.
