Disco Baby was Van McCoy & The Soul City Symphony's second and final quad release, issued solely in Japan on CD-4 LP in 1975. Recorded at New York's Mediasound Studios, the album featured the gold-certified hit single "The Hustle".

Maybe I lucked out on a mint pressing, but the sound quality of this LP is astounding. You'd never know it was CD-4, as it doesn't exhibit any loss in high-end response and there's barely any surface noise. The quad mix is really well-done too, with mostly horns and percussion isolated in the rear speakers. The big reverb on the 'do it!' vocal refrains in "The Hustle" travels from front-to-rear, and "Get Dancin'" kicks off with a fun around-the-room pan. Not sure who controls the rights to Avco's catalog nowadays (Concord?), but this plus the quad of Love Is The Answer would make an awesome D-V two-fer.
