So the other day I decided to make a compilation of video clips in the mkv format.

Then I hit a chapter issue so I used mkvtoolnix to effectively remove chapters. Except on a couple of video clips mkvtoolnix somehow corrupted the video. So I spent some time trying to work around it in mkvtoolnix.

The solution? MMH. The Chapter Editor happily removed the chapters and bang, worked, no video corruption. Kicking myself for not just using MMH from the start on it. Long live MMH!
I've found MMH much easier to use than mkvtoolnix to work with MKV files.

During my tests using the "Automated Reporting" function, I've found a lot of missing DR values. So I used the batch function and scanned my folders. MMH crashes when corrupt FLAC (in my case) are present and processed.

  • The good thing: now I can find the faults and can correct them (which I do now)
  • The bad thing: it's a bit complicated to find the folder where the corrupt files are located, because of my large lib ...

This happens (I think), when the conversion of a DVD-V (so called Audio-DVD) did not work as expected, like discussed here: https://www.quadraphonicquad.com/fo...the-last-one-which-contains-full-album.35986/

Some albums were not converted as they should. Now I have a different technique to do that. The older and corrupt ones have to be done again.

Thanks for your comments @M-K

I will update MMH to report the file name in the corrupt file scenario. (Probably log it in a log file).

I’d like to try and find a workaround to the MKV chapter corruption in your linked post. Can you please name any releases that you have with this issue? Is it possible to provide an MKV for testing?

Sorry, I really feel like this Windows 11 is kicking my butt.
I was successful with the download Windows .NET 8 Desktop runtime per post 1.
Downloading MMH has always been in my download folder, never a problem.
I do get a pop up that says: The older version of Music Media Helper 8 cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group.

The crash occurred at: Mostly Autumn - Passengers, 2004, DTS (Audio-DVD). I have archived those corrupt FLAC files. The corresponding mkv was erased years ago. But I can try to recreate it. Need some time doing this.

Some albums that I recall to cause trouble as discussed in https://www.quadraphonicquad.com/fo...the-last-one-which-contains-full-album.35986/ :

Riverside - Wasteland (Audio-DVD)
Almost every Audio-DVD from Robert Reed (not DVD-A !). Chimpan A, etc.
And many more.

Do you have admin rights on your new PC? Sounds like you are not an administrator and cant install.

BTW: What is the error message after reboot install attempt?

I am admin for Microsoft 365, redownloading my office apps now.
Have to check admin for Google Chrome.
I went back to my PC 10 and MMH downloaded fine.
Error messages are screen shots above post #2524.

On your new PC:

Go to the C:\Program Files folder
Find the folder: Music Media Helper 8
Delete it. Windows may ask you to give Administrator rights, if so click Yes

Now try and install MMH again.

If this is your new PC why is there all those old MMH versions referenced? Did you copy your old PC onto your new PC or do a backup then restore to new PC?

You should download the installer onto your C: drive and run it from there.

Where is your MMHInstaller.msi file when you run it? One of those error messages indicates you are running it from a network drive.

MMH Atmos Helper: Failed to decode Atmos in .m4a and .mp4 files (change in ffmpeg 7) - fixed (same error in MMH 7 not fixed)
I'm getting lots of "Atmos decoder failed" in downmixing Atmos to Stereo from m4a files... files that play back perfectly on an Atmos receiver (in Atmos, not in stereo, as I cannot seem to conver them). Using 8.0.12.

If there's any more information I can provide, let me know how to proceed.

I would need a sample of one of your files that fail to check it out. But:

If the input is from a BDA that was split from a MKV rip then that’s a known issue with DRP.

You would need to decode the original non-split MKV to stereo the split into tracks, the MMH Atmos Helper will do that.

I think @himey has had success joining split Atmos files to play in DRP, and hence make the joined file usable to decode (not fail). He may add something to this conversation?

Otherwise you could just remix your current split Atmos files core channels to stereo. You could start by trying that with the MMH Channel Remix tool, you’d need to create a User Defined Remix (define 7.1 to stereo) or I could add a new ‘multi channel to stereo’ option, but typically MMH users have been MCH oriented, wanting MCH from stereo :)
