Hi. All

This is just my observation of the last year on the Japanese Auction sites. I`ve noticed the Pink Floyd DSOTM RM=QS Matrix LP jumping in price a lot. Are people buying for their rarity or as an investment?

One just sold for 40,750 Yen about US $ 260.00
Within the last 6 months, the prices have been.
Yen. 14,700 = US. 94.00
Yen. 16,010 = US. 202.00
Yen. 40,500 = US. 259.00
Yen. 36,000 = US. 230.00

Collectable and rare both. I'm sure that there are Floyd fans that would think nothing of dropping that kind of money on a version that they don't already own. Between Floyd fans and Quad fans I would think that the Floyd fan would be willing to drop the most money.

From my personal standpoint I'm not that big of a Pink Floyd fan and I already have the SQ version anyway. I might be willing to shell out $50 for an RM copy, like I did for "Imagine" but that's about tops.

I heartily approve of those who are genuine collectors but regard those that purchase simply for investment value with disdain! I doubt that the current collectable vinyl market will last forever, those purchasing as an investment will likely lose their shirt.

IDK BBQ, are you sure your Yen to US $ conversions are correct?

edit- oh I see now, they are in 1,000's of Yen not 10's!!!!

I think it is due to the use of the gold RM 4 Channel Sound obi strip on a recent digital release, more people may be seeing it for the first time and seeking it out. I paid about $100 for a clean copy without the obi.

It's really unfortunate that the SACD pictured didn't have the original quad mix available. Kind of a "lie" in the advertising if you as me. Yes, cool that the Japanese SACD looks like the original Japanese release, but that's not what in the sleeve.

That would be the same as with the CBS Quad re-releases from Sony Japan. No SQ mix. Those discs are sold to two markets one for multichannel the other for stereo. Matrix would be considered redundant.

I would love it if the encoded mixes were to be included as well but we are a small segment. If those encoded mixes were released separately I would likely buy them. Previous Japanese CD's with the SQ logo on the OBI turned out to just be the stereo mix, that was a blatant lie.
